Well deserved. Monty Williams is a significant part of the equation for why the Suns are so competitive right now.

Suns were so far ahead of everyone in the standings that it's very well deserving even if a number of other coaches had nice stories themselves (Udoka, Nurse, etc.).

Oof, i think there were probably better choices than picking the same guy from last season but so be it.

Well deserved. Love seeing this guy triumph after the tragedy in his life

I actually think he got it because he was snubbed last year. This year Jenkins should have gotten it.

Monty didn't win it last year. It went to Thibs, which was a joke and travesty. Monty got the AP COY award though both seasons.

Why? Suns were what 7 or 8 games ahead of Memphis in the loss column in the same conference. Grizz are a good story and Jenkins has done well but no doubt the award belongs with Monty.

Erik Spoelstra got robbed. Heat were the No.1 seed in the East with a trash roster.

I remember someone posting a previous thread about the candidates, and I thought "wow there are a LOT of good candidates this year!"

And so there were, and Monty was one of them. Congrats to him and to Suns fans.

You're right, my bad, I looked at the wrong award name for the COY award he won last season.

I suppose I'm okay with it in that regard. I just thought Taylor Jenkins, JB Bickerstaff, and Chris Finch all had good turn around years.

But i can see why they voted Monty being that far ahead of the pack.

It wasn't a joke and a travesty. The Knicks were projected to be an awful team bottom of the lottery team and wound up being the 4 seed in the playoffs instead. They massively overperformed their expectations (and their talent). The surprise team that's good out of seemingly nowhere is a common criteria for COTY so it's fair that Thibs won it.

Of course it's easy to discount that accomplishment now because of how poorly their playoff series and the proceeding season went, but remember that voters didn't know that was going to happen at the time.

Next year will be Grizz's head coach, for this year's accomplishment
