I don't feel great about this, I was not super impressed with the moves he made at the deadline. I just hope he doesn't screw up the draft...

He has to trade draft picks if hes building around Lillard.

With 2 lotto picks id trade liilard and build around Simon

He has a lot to prove.

I think he's only made one trade worth mentioning so far. Yeah, he got fleeced but it was indirect. The real fleece was trading Gary Trent Jr. for Powell, and Olshey was the guy who made that deal.

Trading Powell to the Clips for peanuts was basically just a salvage job/cutting losses move.

FVV & #33 pick for S&T Nurkic and the #6 pick.

Portland commits to small ball and gets an elite backcourt they can build around for a deep playoff run.

That's a micro backcourt, a horrible deal for the Blazers and 2 consecutive fleeces by the Raptors.

He's only made 1 significant trade which was Norm Powell to the Clippers. Whether he got fleeced or not depends on what else was out there. It wasn't an incredible return, but it was also no secret that the Blazers were looking to move on and maybe the market wasn't great.

Cronin Positives:
- He actually did... SOMETHING... and broke apart Dame and CJ (too late, but still... the right decision)
- I think getting Ingles bird rights was a solid get, I think he signs in PDX and he's exactly the type of rotation player we need.
- The general format of the CJ trade with the one exception.
- Seems like a real dude, has good/healthy relationships with the media, aka. he's NOT Olshey.
- Didn't panic and trade any of the young players or Nurk.

Cronin Negatives:
- Got fleeced by LAC. Not debatable, even the Clippers management was surprised. He panicked, and pulled the trigger a couple of days too early.
- Not ensuring the second lotto pick from NOP. He had one job, which was to get that second lotto asset to help maximize Dame's time here. He resoundingly failed by not ensuring it was the better of LAL, NOP with the same protections to eliminate edge cases where he would lose it.

I was rooting for him when he took over, but was underwhelmed with the result. It's not "OVER" for this summer, but because he got taken in multiple deals it's going to be an uphill climb, especially knowing Portland is trying to build around Dame.

If I am Portland I am shopping for a President of Basketball Ops to own final decision authority. I think Cronin running "GM Duties / Scouting / etc" will work if someone with more connections / savvy is over the top. Let's hope the Blazers have that annoucement queued up.

If Cronin is the final decision authority, I suspect that it will ultimately fail.

Not giving Nurk and a lotto pick for a ham and egger pg when we already have a better player at the position.

I'm just curious why would the CJ McCollum trade not be worth mentioning? I mean CJ was a cornerstone of that organization for nearly a decade.

And secondly even the Joe Ingles trade should at least be talked about.

By my count the guy did 3 trades all within a week of each other.

Not sure he deserved this but the owners are obviously comfortable with him and we all know that kind of thing tends to be more valued than it should.

Then again this whole path they're on of trying to rebuild around Dame on the fly seems like its doomed to fail to me, so they probably could have hired anyone and gotten the same end result.

Agreed. If only there had been a Portland native with a huge track record looking for this specific role recently they could have hired...

I think part of this rebuild is that most view Anfernee as a future Dame type player, so even if this rebuild fails we kinda have the next Dame waiting in the wings.

I know it sounds a bit odd to claim that he could be as good as Dame someday, but he turned a lot of heads this season and really looked damn good as a starter.
