Not surprised, look at this board dude is extremely unpopular. Not showing up for work for years on end and spouting nonsense/misinformation all the time. There's consequences for your actions.

All it takes is one good to great season and they'll be looking at the numbers again trying to come up with a number to keep him.

Good move by Nike. They need to protect their brand.

Kyrie supporting BLM aligned with their views. But he dug his own grave with sponsors when he decided to go against the grain.

Has little to do with him deciding not to play and everything to do with his decision not to get vaccinated. This is Nike sending a message to all Black athletes imo.

Even if Kyrie had played a full season, I wonder if they do this. It’s pretty hard to compete with up and coming guards like Trae or Ja when you’re losing in the first round as the second fiddle. Maybe if he played for the Knicks.

I guess why is it all black athletes and not others.

And I don't think this is all Covid related. Ky just seems like a really bad business partner. He doesn't understand his role in the NBA industry and probably doesn't understand his role with Nike. Didn't he blast his last shoe saying? Like you can't have a guy repping your brand when he is not willing to work with the marketing experts and shoe designers to make a product that sells (even if the product isnt the best in the eyes of Kyrie). You need a guy willing to sell the product (whether it is Jordan, Manning, Giannis, whoever)

I doubt it's just about being unpopular and also to do with them also clashing as far as his line goes and also how likely would his line continue to sell once he leaves basketball which with him probably slow to a crawl. Jordan is really an anomaly as far as athletes whose shoes still sell long after they retire and even with him it's only the constant release of retros that sell, nothing from his later models.

yeah i dont think being black matters here, Kyrie is not nearly as marketable as he was after his championship. If lebron refused to get vaxed Nike would not drop him imo. With that said the message has always been "dont do anything to stop the gravy train". You bring up blm but from a business perspective i think that was profitable for them.

He should not have said it publicly but he didn't say anything wrong. NIKE put out a shoe with his name on it without involving him in the design of the product. It's an easy fix really. I do not think that was a situation where Kyrie was trying to avoid working with them. That's on Nike for signing athletes to contracts and putting out products with their names, but not involving them. I bet they don't do that with higher profile athletes like Lebron.

Kyrie barely plays so you can’t get max profits when the person shilling your product barely shows up.

Maybe you are right, but for all the shoes that get released.....It was Kyrie's shoe that had bad communication in the design. If I was a betting man, Kyrie either was 1. unrealistic with his designs or 2. he was the one that didn't communicate similar to when he dropped off the side of the Earth with taking an absence from the nets. If it is 1. they were not a good fit and should separate. If it is 2, it is on Kyrie. Obviously, there is 3. Nike only had bad design communication with Kyrie and dropped the ball. We will never know for sure but if I'm running a business I am not signing Kyrie to endorse it. Too unpredictable.

I had a pair of Kyrie 1's way back when. Those shoes just didn't work for me, I ended up spraining my ankle twice in the same season and switched to Adidas after, haven't gone back to Nike since (although I don't play nearly as much as I used to).

All that said, I think Kyrie had some nice looking shoes over the years, and some solid colour ways. Unfortunately I recall him ripping his last shoe release apart, so I'm not entirely surprised Nike would decide to cut ties (without knowing more information). Nike has a lot of marketable athletes, they don't need Kyrie to sell sneakers, they'll be just fine.
