Does anyone know what his max would be per year?

He didn't get the MAX extension last offseason and he's essentially been stewing about it all year long. Nobody really made a deal out of it because of how good the Suns regular season was, but it's likely a real thing.

The Suns drafting Ayton #1 over Luka was and still is so incredibly absurd.

it's all mental and heart. he has shown that he can be elite in a single game setting. will he ever unlock the motor? not sure

For the record, when internet GMs say things take a purely on-paper approach to contract extensions, this can be part of what you miss. They clearly through off the vibes with Ayton making him play out the year and maybe it saves them money, but it also seems to have contributed in part to a lost year.

He let the RFA get to him in a critical playoff moment.

i think he got exposed after the doping test. probably why i overrated him over doncic for that reason as well.

I feel like the Suns just never used him correctly. He’s still very young so I think he can still fulfill his potential on a new team.

He has special potential. It's rare to have a guy that big who's this light on his feet. He certainly could be a perennial DPOY candidate if he set his mind to it.

But he still has a long way to go to reach the player that he could be. Which is why it wasn't such a tragedy that the Suns didn't give him a max contract the first second they could last offseason after all.

Funny how a year ago so many people on this board were talking about Ayton as if he was a top 5 big in the league. Now go through and read the replies to this thread.

Luka played him off the court. Just like I predicted before the series started.
