Is CP3 the Zlatan of NBA

Post#1 » by EasternHeretic » Mon May 16, 2022 11:46 pm

Annointed point god, Zlatan thinks himself as one.
Both aged very well, playing great into older age.
Both moved around and have been on stacked teams.
Both considered one of the greatest at their position, neither have won an MVP of their sport.
Both have strong personalities.
Both couldn't win the real big one, and gets labelled as chokers sometimes.

Luka has more Zlatan personality I think. Both are pretty hilarious in a good way IMO.

Not really. Zlatan never choked. Only team he been on with a chance to win CL with was barcelona, but he had the biggest choke manager then.

Nobody comes close to Zlatan when it comes to personality. Maybe a combination of Shaq and Draymond.

Eh, I wouldn't 100% agree with this. Yes, it is true that the Champions League is the biggest title in football at the club level and that Zlatan has never won it but I don't believe that the CL Is really all that analogous to an NBA title. You see, the CL is a truly intercontinental competition. It doesn't function as a domestic league. Every football federation has their own domestic league and then the champions (or, depending on the league you're in, the best placed teams) compete for the Champions League. The NBA, on the other hand, functions as a domestic league. Yes, the inclusion of Canadian teams does make it a bit unique for a domestic but even that isn't unheard of (all football clubs from Liechtenstein compete in the Swiss football leagues, some Welsh clubs compete in the English football leagues and even in basketball you have some regional leagues like the VTB League that also stand in as domestic leagues for some of the clubs there).

A football player may never win a Champions League but if he has helped his team win a domestic league title in one of the strongest leagues (like La Liga, Premier League, Ligue 1 or Serie A) then I don't see how they can be branded a choker. In the NBA, though, that really isn't an option. You either win the NBA title or you win no domestic title at all.

Zlatan has won domestic titles in 3 of the 4 leagues I mentioned (La Liga with Barcelona, Ligue 1 with PSG and Serie A with Inter, Juventus and Milan, although the Juventus ones were later revoked due to a match fixing scandal). Yes, he didn't win a title in England and he hasn't won a Champions League title but that still doesn't make him a choker.

As for the MVP title, he may have not won a Ballon d'Or but he has won a Golden Foot and that's a very prestigious award as well.

Kylie Irving is more of a Zlatan. A decent player, never considered the best, but both total a-hole thinking they’re so much better.

Zlatan won trophies (said above) but no offense, any decent forward would’ve won it. Drogba, Luis Suarez, Ruud van Nistelrooy, he’s more on those levels (decent forwards who can be top scorers of a league)…..however, the man thinks he’s Messi, Ronaldo (Portugal or Brazil), and he’s not even Robert Lewandowski.

I don't agree with a-hole but eccentric is a word that could be used for Zlatan.

True. That is part of why I don't think that you can make a straight-up comparison between an NBA title and a Champions League title. The nature of the NBA as both a domestic league and the biggest title to win in the sport at the club level creates a title or bust mentality that doesn't exist for the Champions League.

Zlatan and Chris Paul are 2 different personalities.
Zlatan is the cocky mf, who happens to be great at football.

Chris Paul on the other hand is a clean and clever business man who is the definition of a floor general.

In terms of personality they’re a lot different but as far as team success for their perceived greatness it’s a great comparison.

Even if we look at the fact that they’re both tough fits as a #1 guy if you want to win a Championship / Champions League.

Chris is a short point guard and Zlatan isn’t super fast or suited for a possession based, quick passing style that has dominated futbol for the past 2 decades
