Warriors: the greatest comeback team ever (?)

Post#1 » by SUPERVILLAIN » Sat May 21, 2022 3:56 am

Can't lie I thought it's going to be another blowout after the 1st half. Another boring game. Mavericks once led by 19 points! Yet in the end the Warriors won the game by 9. What the f*ck.

Is this Warriors team/core the greatest comeback team in NBA history? I'm pretty sure I have seen them comeback from being down deep again and again. Is there any team that can rival them?

By the way, shoutout to Kevon Looney!

With shooters like that, you can come back from any deficit. Incredible.

Gotta go with the 2011 Mavs for that one.

How can the warriors be the greatest comeback team when Curry is the ultimate front runner. I'm confused here.

You have to be consistently down to be considered the greatest comeback team.

Some version of the Clippers were known for coming back from big deficits.

I don't know about that. I feel like when we get down by a lot the wheels tend to fall off. Think they almost fell off today. Luckily Kidd/Luka thought attacking Looney was a better idea than attacking Curry.

It’s funny, now that the 3-point shot is such a prominent part of most NBA offenses a 19-point lead no longer seems insurmountable. I feel like I’ve seen so many teams come back from 20 points that I’m now jaded by it when it happens. 15 years ago I would have considered this one of the biggest choke jobs ever but now I’m just so used to teams erasing large deficits it seems like a regular part of the game. I never felt like this game was out of control even though I’m sure statistically a 19-point lead it’s almost a guaranteed win.

Hence this topic. The sample size has been large enough to crown them the best ever (?)

They are, part of it, 2016 NBA Finals.

No comeback thread is complete without a mention of the Cavs coming back from a 3-1 deficit against the greatest team ever.

When they get rolling you see it take its toll on the other teams faces. Pre-KD when they would go on those runs it was breathtaking to watch

When we swept the blazers in the wcf I think they had double digit leads in all 4 games. But yea we’re front runners especially that curry guy.
Most 4th Quarter Points in Final since 1991
1995 Shaquille O'Neal 11.5
2000 Shaquille O'Neal 11.5 (61.1% TS)
2015 Stephen Curry 10.8 (75.1% TS)
1997 Michael Jordan 10.7 (55.1% TS)
1998 Michael Jordan 10.6 (50.6% TS)
2011 Dirk Nowitzki 10.3 (68.0% TS)

My memories of the early 2000's Lakers have a lot of comeback wins for some reason. You'd think Kobe and Shaq rarely need to but hey, most people are mentioning teams from the last few years so I'll just put that one out there.

Core? Dray and klay (and Lee) were the biggest reasons that they needed this big comeback. Dubs made their run while those 2 were sitting.

Can they be both the greatest comeback team ever and the greatest chokers ever?

The 2017 Warriors would like to have a word. This team pales in comparison

Warriors actually only made 1 three in the third then it was cut down to a 1 point deficit.

I think the stat/data that we need is if they're the greatest 3rd quarter team ever. It isn't so much about if they come back but it's that they seem to absolute dominate 3rd quarters. Sometimes this means they run up the score and run away, other times they erase these big leads.
