Completely shut him down? Probably not, Luka is too methodical for that. He could probably guard him better than anyone though, considering the best Luka stopper right now in the league is Ben Simmons by far. For Luka, you need length, considerable amount of meat, and athleticism. There aren't a whole lot of those guys walking around, and LeBron was clearly one of them. Rodman would be another good candidate, and Marion too.

Prime Bron is pretty good.
He did a good job against MVP DRose.
But Luka is more like himself. So it's hard to stop someone who can impact game more than just scoring.

Off the dribble? No. LeBron didn’t really have the requisite lateral quickness outside of his first few years in the league.

No one completely shuts down elite offensive players like Luka. But prime LeBron was an salute beast defensively. He was bigger, faster, and stronger than Luke. So yes, he could’ve done a good job guarding him.

not in this era, court is too spread out and the rules make it almost impossible to guard elite offensive players 1v1.

Seems unlikely. Artest's D was built to stop iso penetration. Against a PnR baller with a good jumper and a post game which doesnt rely on power, his main defensive tools are nullified.

That is going up against a 28/29 year old Kawhi and a 29/30 year old PG13.

Its also not like prime LeBron was some generational defender either. Dont get me wrong, he was an elite defender but he wasn't some level of defender we haven't seen since. Prime Kawhi was easily the better defensive player.

Actually Ben Simmons with all his problems was effectively shutting down Luka last year. Fast, tall, could work, though I agree complete shutdown is not that easy to expect with Luka.

Kawhi hadn't been at his defensive peak for years when they met in the playoffs. In the bubble he actually had mixed results guarding Luka with some impressive stretches that makes me think he would have been a problem for Luka at his peak. In general Clippers were just really really averse to cross matching them.

Peak Lebron could but I doubt he would want to for that long since Lebron is one of those players that had great defensive ability but he just selectively used it. Lebron wanted to avoid foul trouble and wanted to save energy for offense. In short, Lebron IMO had a playing style on defense of wanting to make the most impact while exerting the least amount of energy.

Yes, LBJ would have shut him down one-on-one. Rose was WAY quicker than Luka, and he couldn't get by LBJ much.

Nobody shuts down top offensive players single-handedly. That just isn't a thing in the NBA.

10 years ago LeBron could certainly be a very effective primary defender on Luka though.
