AD hasn't shot a basketball since April

Post#1 » by AussieCeltic » Mon Jun 13, 2022 12:27 am

Saw this on the RealGM ticker and was shocked.

I know players enjoy their off seasons but this guy seems checked out. For a guy that had his worst free throw shooting percentage of his career and a horrible 3 point percentage last season, I fully expected a guy earning the max to be in the gym getting some shots up.

Eh, if anything I'd rather have his body be well rested.

I'm sure he can start ramping up with 2 months to go before the season starts.

Maybe he’s just burned out and needs a break. Sometimes time completely away is the best thing you can do to get back on track.

He's only played 76 games the last 2 seasons. I think he's well rested.

This. As well as getting knocked out early one year and no playoffs the other... He's one of the most rested players in the league.

Still, do you really want to be playing russian roulette with his body scrimmaging in the off season or would you at least want to use those bullets in actual games?

He doesn't need to scrimmage at all. If you're coming off one of the worst shooting performances of your career, you should probably be getting some shots up. I'm a coach so maybe I'm being a bit too harsh but I'd expect more from a max guy and someone with the potential of AD.

This is his normal routine, according to another post I saw on here.

4 weeks of vacation. 6 weeks of weight training and 6 weeks of basketball before the season starts.

I think this is why he hasn't managed to develop a reliable 3pt shot though. You can't develop a shot in 6 weeks.

I mean those bricks rebounding hard off the rim can be dangerous if they hit you. Best to play it safe.

When your shot is really struggling sometimes an extended break from shooting can help, practicing too much when you're off can actually further solidify doing it wrong and it's like a reset when you come back to it if you take a break. The offseason would be the time for that. This is a nothingburger

You know who stops playing basketball after the season ends...guys that are kinda over it.

In the DMV you would see Arenas, Butler, KD, Melo, Wall and Areanas again balling for free giving people buckets same with Jcrossover/ Crawford, IT, Lavine, in the Seattle area....I don’t know about you but if a player stops putting the ball through the hoop for fun YOU gotta worry If their heart is still in it.

maybe those injuries just took their toll and AD already ready for life post constant pain...can’t blame him for that

Maybe he’s just trying to have some work life balance.

Imagine if your company gave you 3 months off. You would keep doing your work activity?

Not everyone is addicted to basketball.

Taking a few weeks off is perfectly healthy.

Pro golfers do the same thing. It’s all about what will cause you to peak when it matters.

It’s not like he is taking the entire off season Off. Only the beginning.

Heck how much time did MJ take off to play baseball? I know he was the goat but just saying.

Playing every single day doesn’t necessarily make you better.

Pascal did the same at the onset of covid lockdowns- then when the bubble happened he was atrocious.

Hopefully it's different for AD
