The Atlanta Hawks Are Preparing A Big Offer For Rudy Gobert?

Post#1 » by OrangeBlueSkies » Tue Jun 14, 2022 4:05 pm

There has been plenty of talk among league personnel that some combination of Capela, John Collins, Kevin Huerter and the No. 16 pick could be routed to Utah for the three-time Defensive Player of the Year.

Trae and Gobert could be a really special pairing -- covering perfectly for the other players shortcomings.

And in the East, Gobert is less likely to be played off the floor in the postseason since he'd matchup well opposite elite bigs like Embiid, Giannis, Adebayo and Siakam.

both guys are not trying to switch on defense so hedging or playing drop would be perfect. gobert is going to keep everyone focused in the regular season, it would be awesome.

No chance hawks give up all that. Plus this article doesn’t make sense if hawks want to open up playing time for Okongwu. Gobert/Okongwu won’t work at all.

I think Okongwu has potential to play the 4.

Just yesterday Hawks were all in on Ayton. Last week it was they were zeroing in on Grant. Another BR article is the Hawks are trying to free up minutes for Okongwu...

I need Shams or Woj to eviscerate these hacks with real journalism and news.

He's not a bad fit for the Hawks (just not at the price in this rumour).

I like the deal for both teams and think it is fair but if I was a Hawks fan, I would be concerned about Trae and an aging Gobert on a supermax. Is the Hawks ownership the kind that is willing to go deep into the tax or if this doesn't work will they be forced into attaching assets in salary dump and a dissatisfied Trae a few years from now. I do think Trae and Gobert has great potential but it is very big risk if you don't have a very deep pocketed and committed owner.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

By "real journalism," do you mean getting a text with the exact details from an agent?

Why trade for Gobert when you have Cappella unless the price is only Gallo

If Gobert can't cover for Mitchell or Conley how is he going to for Trae. When has a tall stiff ever gotten better into his 30s.

It's the silly season. Besides this 'Big Offer for Rudy Gobert? is nothing new. See the Yahoo article from back on May 5th, 6 weeks ago.

The Rudy Gobert trade market
Atlanta Hawks
• Trade offer: Clint Capela, Kevin Huerter and a first-round draft pick

• Jazz rationale: The downgrade from Gobert to Capela is worth acquiring Huerter — a worthy Joe Ingles replacement with a higher ceiling — and another first-round pick to go hunting for additional upgrades.

• Hawks rationale: Trae Young needs as much defensive help as he can get.

Utah wants Hunter and/or Okongwu - Hawks already said no.

Gobert is a Hall of Famer in his prime. And Utah's defense has been top-10 seven times in the last 8 seasons.

Not to mention that Rudy Gobert will dominate every Center in the East not named Joel Embiid.

An elite offensive engine paired with a dominant defensive anchor gives Atlanta a measure of balance that team hasn't had since Budenholzer left.

Their fit isn't in question....it's the cost to acquire him and that contract that should concern Hawks fans.

adding Okongwu would be too much for Atlanta in my opinion. I'd want to surround Trae with 4 elite or potentially elite defenders, so I need to keep Okongwu and Hunter in a Gobert trade.

Trae
-
Hunter
Okongwu
Gobert

if they can add the right 2 guard to those 4 that could be a very dangerous team.

Centers have not been an issue for the Hawks advancing during the playoffs for the most part. Embiid goes off, Dwight goes off all in their primes, and the Hawks still advance.

In the previous season, the East centers all had really good games against Utah. Capela, Bam, WCJ, Myles Turner, Horford, Jarrett Allen, Gafford, Claxton all had good games with Gobert playing. Vucevic is the lone one that actually struggled from the field.

He won't help stop the guys like Tatum, Butler, KD, etc. He surely won't help with the elite guards in the conference.
