My NT is Poland. We are last in the group, basically have to beat Israel home and Germany away to move on to second round of FIBA WC qualifiers. As for Eurobasket advancing to knockout round is the team ceiling.

Australia will be playing in the Asia Qualifiers in a pool with China, Japan and Chinese Taipei at the start of next month.

No NBA players, but it will have Bucks legends Thon Maker and Matthew Dellevadova, as well as Duke alumni Jack White.

Any news on Exum joining. His season is still on going, he is in Spanish league finals with Barcelona, but he has been left out of active 12 players list most playoffs, so he should be fresh. He had his moments in his debut Euro season, but Spanish league have 2 active non EU players restriction, so coach Jasikevicius had to make the choice who to cut between Exum, Higgins and Nigel Haeys, and Exum is unfortunate one who is just being a chearleader nowadays.

I think the team's pretty set. But yeah, I've been disappointed to see Exum out of the rotation.. all us Australian fans have been pretty stoked to see him perform well and stay relatively healthy for Barca. From the outside looking in it's hard to see Hayes deserving minutes over him.

Hayes is pretty bad, but Jasikevicius loves size for defense and he loves SF's who can post up, also he overcoaches. People say he is candidate to coach NBA someday, but I don't see the fit at all, and its not just because he is militaristic coach. He would be one of the absolute last Euroleague coaches I would want in the NBA.

Serbia +350
France/Slovenia +450
Greece +500
Spain +900
Lithuania +1100

Hoping for new (young) faces for our french squad.

Starting by the former zags (Ayayi/Tillie), Victor (he has to play since most likely next year he will be focused on the - useless - summer league...), Hayes (not Maledon though). Maybe Okobo. Maybe Demahis Ballou. Maybe Doumbouya if he is not a lost cause. Maybe Batcho (but that would be a major surprise, a good for me).

I just hope no one will entertain the Embiid stuff.

I am assuming the goal is to reach semi finals (and test potential future leaders & role players for 2024). We'll see. We are semi rebuilding/retooling (at least, we should).

This Eurobasket looks really open, i would not be that surprised if couple outsiders/surprises finish on the podium

It's shaping up to be a real fun tournament. Obviously I'd love for Greece to make the Final and win, but I wouldn't be upset if there were a Serbia/Slovenia final or if France made it.

yup you can’t isolate him, and is easier to defend. Luka has the skill to play in space, and the strength to create room, and he has the floaters as well. The guys a total nightmare

UcanUwill wrote:So the Eurobasket is back! Please share news and your expectations here. Most big name boys are commited to play, Jokic, Giannis and Doncic will be there, Dragic is coming back for another last dance, Sabonis and Valanciunas there as well, pretty much every NBA player showed interest to show up. One guy who will be missed this year is Serbia's Bogdan Bogdanovic.

Also, world cup qulifying window starts soon, so I merged these two evens in one thread, and as soon as it passes, we will focus on Eurobasket. My Lithuania will have one of the most interesting window teams ever. Grigonis, who is probably our third best player will play for a window team, which is a huge luxary, but we know what to expect from him, what makes this one interesting are National team debut for Orlando's Ignas Brazdeikis and Charlotte's Arnoldas Kulboka.

What is your national team up to?

The reports I read were that Dragic will play one game only. Not that he's playing at the EuroBasket.

Exum didn't perform well with Barca. In most of the games in EuroLeague, he did absolutely nothing.

Exum didn't perform well with Barca. Most of the games in EuroLeague he was awful.

Didnt know that about Dragic, that sound stupid.

And Exum was not awful, he started slow, but at the end of the season he had his moments, he had multiple double digit scoring games. If you expected some NBA caliber Euroleague star, then maybe you was disappointed, but he was just fine, and its his first year in Europe playing far top 4 team in Euroleague, under very guard stricted coach.

If I am recalling correctly, I believe that Dragic said something like that his knees couldn't handle playing with the NT like 5 years ago. So there would probably be little chance he would do it now, maybe unless he was planning on retiring after the tournament.

In most of the EuroLeague games, Exum did nothing. In the important games, he did nothing. I didn't say he was awful. He was like a slightly below average level EuroLeague player. So he didn't perform well in EuroLeague. Not awful, but definitely not well either. He was awful at the important games, however.

https://www.euroleaguebasketball.net/euroleague/players/dante-liman-exum/011302/

6.3 points
2.5 rebounds
1.6 assists
0.5 steals
0.3 blocks

and he averaged 5 points at the final four.

Yes, it was his first EuroLeague season, and he did show some flashes and have some good games, but in no way can that be considered performing well overall. Exum was basically the same player with Barca, that he was in the NBA. Show some flashes here and there, have lots of games where he does nothing, and pretty much have mediocre or worse production overall.

I have no idea why we (Greece) have such good odds here. I don't think that we're going to be very good.

Giannis is amazing, don't get me wrong, but in FIBA competitions he can be slowed down. The major difference in the ruleset affects him quite a lot. His playstyle is a perfect fit for the NBA but it can be countered in FIBA competitions.

PG Kostas Sloukas / Nick Calathes
SG Tyler Dorsey / Giannoulis Larentzakis
SF Ioannis Papapetrou / Kostas Papanikolaou / Thanasis Antetokounmpo
PF Giannis Antetokounmpo / Dinos Mitoglou
C George Papagiannis / Kostas Antetokounmpo / Vassilis Kavvadas

Head Coach: Dimitris Itoudis

If all the players were available to play, the roster would probably be something like that. It looks quite strong on paper in the front court. The problem is Greece usually has 5-10 of its best players missing in every tournament, since like 2009.

But that might be different now that they finally kicked out the old federation, and put an actual independent sports body in. A lot of the players didn't want to play because they hated the federation.

The other big problem Greece had since 2009, was that all of the head coaches it had (except Pitino) were downright awful. Now they have one of the best European coaches, which is an enormous upgrade from what they usually have.

So it's possible that the best players actually show up now and the coaching should finally be proper. With that being said, it's a team with Calathes, Sloukas, and Dorsey at the guard positions..........

Calathes is the worst shooter to ever play at point guard in EuroLeague history. He makes Rubio look like Steph Curry by comparison, and he almost always disappears in big games.

Sloukas has a very low basketball IQ, he's a shockingly horrible defender, and he is a gigantic choker. He's like the AntiSpanoulis - you almost expect him to choke the game away.

Dorsey offers nothing to a basketball team other than being able to hit open jumpers off screens. He's probably the least skilled rotation guard Greece had in decades.

So, there are a couple of reasons to be very optimistic for Greece (new coach and new federation), but that guard rotation is so atrociously awful, when you compare it to what standard of play that Greece's guards usually were over the last 40 years (Galis / Giannakis), (Papaloukas / Diamantidis), (Spanoulis / Zisis). It's still drastically worse guards than the players since like the 70s.

And as you said, so far Giannis's production has a huge decline under FIBA rules, when he plays with Greece. Maybe he can change that at some point, but his game is 100% made for NBA rules and reffing, and is one of the worst kinds of skill sets for FIBA rules and reffing.
