Max Kellerman's Top 10 NBA Players of All-Time

Post#1 » by LAL1947 » Sat Jun 18, 2022 10:08 pm

Here is Max Kellerman's updated Top 10 list of All-Time. I like Max. :D

Personally, I think his list is quite well structured. It seems like he's put the players in an order that can't really be argued against... unless you break the logic you use for one instance in another instance.

Since it has been a topic of conversation recently, he currently has KD at #11 and Steph at #12.

I really want to know why he considers KD better than Hakeem.

Surprisingly ok despite the typical unjustifiable Hakeem exclusion

I think thats the consensus top 10 however you want to order them. I think Steph fits nicely in at #11.

This is better than I expected but I've never gotten the impression he's knowledgeable about basketball.

It’s hard to take his list seriously when he has Kobe over Larry, Magic, Duncan & Hakeem.

If you look at 6 to 8 year peak, Bird and Magic are both easily above Kobe. If you're talking entire body of work over a career Kobe has a case over them... but he was never a better player at his peak.

Kevin Durant is nowhere near the top 15.I can't believe anyone still thinks Durant is deserving a top 15 spot at this point based how poorly he played against Boston in the 1st round this season and knowing that he had to form a superteam in order to win. Lebron James and Bill Russell are ranked too high. Magic Johnson and Tim Duncan are too low. Hakeem is easily a top 10 player of all time, but according Max Kellerman,he's not even better than Kevin Durant, which is absured. Overall not a great list.

Kobe was comparable to both Magic & Bird at his peak

I think his list is excellent TBH, it's very hard to argue against. I have Kobe over 3 of the 4 guys you named (except Larry) in my personal list too, as I think he was a more talented offensive player who could still lead his team to titles... and therefore, a better #1 option than they were. I also value peak over longevity, provided a player has a decently long prime (approx 10 years).

It would have been nice to include Hakeem. It looks like Max is paying homage to Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain, for their place in basketball history. Then he's gone with Duncan over Hakeem, since Duncan has 5 titles to Hakeem's 2. I too think Hakeem was a Top 10 player and a better Center than Kareem, Duncan, Russell... yet have to begrudgingly agree he may not have the resume for Top 10.

Shaq and Kobe are too high. Duncan is too low and Hakeem should be in the top 10

Seems mostly accurate, might swap a couple guys rank around a bit but mostly spot on.

I can’t take any list with Bill Russell in the top 10 seriously.

Because of his lack of scoring, or because of the era he played in?

If it's the former, who is the worst scorer in your top 10?
Now that's the difference between first and last place.

My personal solution is to put Bill Russell at #11 in my list, which also matches his 11 rings, lol... and unanimously credit those Celtics teams as the Best Dynasty of All-Time to honor their achievement.

This way, he's right outside the Top 10, so Russell/Celtic fans can't be too annoyed... and if anyone is petty enough to argue that #11 is too high, well, I can just ignore that argument. :P
