For most of these options to even be theoretically possible Kyrie would have to renounce his $36.4 million player option and agree to play for the mid level exception. It's really rare to see a player give up $26 million bucks just to get out of a situation that's a little less than ideal.

But I guess Ben Simmons just did that last year to get out of Philly so it is possible.

He can opt in and be traded. Miami could offer up Lowry, Herro, and as many firsts as necessary, though I really hope we don't.

He could just opt in with the understanding he’ll be traded, that’s what CP3 did in 2017 when the Clippers traded him to the Rockets.

James is calling, so Kyrie will run to LA - and Westbrook will be joinging Simmons in Brooklyn, while Durant goes to some other greener pasture.

Occasionally you'll see ring chasers at the very end of their career turn down a big contract but this would be basically unprecedented. Kyrie is mercurial. His actions aren't rational. He is also self-absorbed. I'm sure he believes he did nothing wrong.

But I can't conceive of him giving up this much money just because he upset the Nets will only give a 3 year max rather than a 5.

Yeah but the Nets would have to agree to the trade. Do they want Westbrook or Kyle Lowry for next season? Maybe - but I kinda doubt it.

This is pretty much it. No matter what happens. Kyrie will claim it was due to his plan and we are all fools who can't recognize his genius.

Durant may retire if Westbrook ends up in Brooklyn with him again — then you still got Ben Simmons too……

I'd bet on Westbrook being re-routed somewhere like Charlotte for Gordon Hayward and a 1st round pick with a likelihood of being late lottery.

I think the Lakers will find a way to get Kyrie somehow.

Even though it sucks and I agree with their rational of not wanting to pay Kyrie, the alternative is too ugly. Nets would be stupid to break the team up while not having any of their draft picks and go back to the post KG/Pierce era.

The potential of a Durant/Kyrie/Simmons trio with a decent supporting cast is a championship contender. If things fail then look to make trades at that point.
