Which era (and rules) would they play in? That makes a huge difference.

Voted Team 3 because that is most universal, least era dependent. Team 1 would be 2nd IMO, in terms of universal.

But current era might favor one approach, while some older eras would favor the bigger teams (like with Zion at the 3 or Bill Russell at the 4).

Know what. Still team 3. Ray Allen would be lethal in today’s game, even more than he was then. And Bosh, Sheed, Admiral… plus presumably healthy Kawhi and Pierce, an unhandchecked Stockton with Walt behind him?

Team 2, you have 2 players who won the last 4 MVPs combined, the MVP runner up for the last two years and the probable MVP favorite in Luka for next year. Plus you have elite defense with Gobert, Embiid, Giannis and Draymond.

I'm going #6, Payton isn't starting... but 3 of my fave defensive players on that squad with Bird Payton and AK47

++ INCLUDING Walton, who at prime level was incredible with Dwight as his back up. Sign me up.

This team will get possessions for free and has Bird Billups Dumars and Duncan for major nerves of steel. Took me until now to mention Duncan ? Lets go team 6. Bird in today's game ? Give me 12 3-pt PG on 40-45%, please!

Team 3 though, yikes. Jordan Kawhi Admiral Sheed Artis.... okay... uhh yeah I put my bias for T6 above the titanic combo of a Kawhi and Jordan wing tandem with AT Assists leader Stockton...... *gulp*

Team 7 would dominate in any of the eras. Pre 3pt line? Check. Illegal defense era? Check. Today's game? Absolutely.

I'd just like to remind you guys that Bill Russell was probably the best defensive roamer in NBA history. Comparable with Hakeem, Robinson, and Garnett. He'd be perfect alongside Shaq on the defensive end, providing weakside help defense, like Rob Williams or Anthony Davis back in 2020.

The one concern might be the fit on offense. However, San Antonio won a championship only 8 years ago playing Tim Duncan and Tiago Splitter together. In fact, their playoff starting 5 was:

Kawhi Leonard
Tiago Splitter (Non-shooter)
Tim Duncan (Non-shooter)

With shooters like Reggie, Nash, and Price roaming around, there's more than enough spacing. Imagine all the off-ball movement and the screens set by the bigs. The passing is strong too.

I voted Team 5, even though this is impossible.

I didn't notice until after I voted that the starters and bench players could probably run most of the same stuff (besides the obvious mismatch hunting for Hakeem, etc.), which is pretty cool. I guess this might help over an 82 game season? Anyway, it's not why I selected the team.

I voted team 5, but I was stuck between them and team 3.

I'd suggest having a random bracket system. I didn't really take benches into consideration until I got my final 2 teams. Just a lot to dive into.

I have team 3 here. The only thing close to a weak link is PF with Sheed. But there's a solid backup in Bosh and both guys have the role players skills that would be useful as they'd be role players at this level. Good balance of skills (guys with star-level talent that can transition to unfair good role players in an all-star type setting) and probably the easiest team to ego manage. Everybody else has some flaws, some minor, some big.

Team 1 - One of the best, but a bit weak on the perimeter for this level

Team 2 - Severe lack of perimeter talent. Only 3 guys who can credibly play PG/SG/SF. Since I won't assume future peaks for youth, Zion is the worst player here.

Team 4 - Also very good. A bit weak on shooting from the forward rotation.

Team 5 - Probably #2. Not sure Tatum's quite there yet - though would just start Havlicek. Nitpicking the bench depth is a little worst than 3.

Team 6 - Also really solid. Short-peak guys (McGrady, Walton) may be causing be to underrate them.

Team 7 - I think you lose value with Russell at PF, especially next to a low-post only C like Shaq. In general the roster is low on offense-creation for play at this level even with the best overall defense.

Team 8 - Another very good option. Bench on the weak side.

Team 9 - Frontcourt offense and general quality is too limited to compete at this level.

Team 3 just has the best balance of offense/defense/shooting not to mention the GOAT. This team would be extremely difficult to score on and would be absolutely lethal with all their shooters and Admiral catching lobs from Stockton. Obviously all the teams are great but I think team 3 clearly is a tier above the rest fit wise for this era

Team 3 for mine, but i had a hard time picking between 3 of these line-ups. It was just peak MJ in this one that pushed me over the top.
