Well worth watching some of these games to get a true feel for the era.

The games I've watched are quite enjoyable- pace of play is good, officiating seemed better, and the game seemed more authentic (not as much extraneous hype). More diversity of play too- mid-range shots, post ups, less screen/roll action.

I grew up on mid-to-late '80s basketball, so it is nice to examine the era that immediately preceded it.

Thank you, much appreciated.

Now I'll finally get to know what the fuss is about all those plumbers...

Good stuff and well edited to be only game action, just watched 10 minutes of one and it was fun.

I do have to say that I don't get the grass being greener. I generally don't believe people when they say they clearly prefer the old midrange jumpers and butt-to-the-basket isos to the pn'r, pace, and 3s of now. Just feels like people find watching something different refreshing, which makes sense. But it's not because it's actually more better, the old stuff would've also grown very tedious over time.

(I do feel the extra hype that OP mentioned though. Pro sports have definitely gotten way more expensive and inaccessible in the past 30 years, games in the 80s and early 90s felt more just like some guys playing a game in the downtowns of old cities, and anyone could come and check it out.)

I don't think it was necessarily better back then, just refreshingly different as you said- still enjoyable to watch.

I had a discussion with my brother recently- he is 4 years older than me and we grew up watching this era and he has no nostalgia for it. He says it is "unwatchable" now. I disagree for the reasons I mentioned above. I enjoy today's NBA too, but I'm frustrated with all of the stops in action and the excessive amount of 3 point shooting.

More people should watch these games. It would help them appreciate modern players more.

I went from watching the 1975 ECF Game 1 video to watching summer league highlights of Gui Santos scoring 23 points, and I think every single time he touched the ball, he would've been called for a travel in 1975. Probably more than once per touch, tbh.

It's just weird, is all I'm saying.

Traveling was definitely called differently back then.

The refs were also very good at keeping the pace of the game going- onto the next play as fast as is reasonably possible

I found this on reddit. The user found every single game (some full some highlights) of MJ and Kobe and the Nba finals and made them a playlist on youtube.

Tried to watch one of these. Was literally falling asleep in my chair halfway through the first quarter. Only thing that looked impressive and skillful was Kareem's skyhook. Granted, that was pretty nasty.

Definitely heavily enjoyable compared to today's watered down and unskilled product.

Wow, they have the 1984 Finals Game 7 Lakers/Celtics. Great game to flip through and watch some plays.

You mean before they stopped playing defense?

But seriously, I hate this "they never played defense in _____ era". There were always teams who didn't play defense, but we also always had elite ones. It doesn't make any sense.

Already have two Bill Fitch classics from this channel on one of my playlists.
