Why don't the lakers have individual banners for the Minneapolis Lakers Titles?

The banner for the Minneapolis year which condences all the titles into one banner is distinct from all the other Laker title banners. It'd be one thing if the Lakers didn't count those titles in their official history, but that isn't the case. They do consider it one franchise and those titles being equal with all the others.

It seems lame to me to count titles for your rivalry with the Celtics but not give those titles the same esteem in your own house.

Those banners should be hung in Minnesota but they didn't want them.

To ensure there’s enough room to accommodate LAkers retired jerseys, LA Kings multiple Stanley cup title banners, LA Sparks multiple championship banners, and some Clippers player posters.

The Lakers didn’t even hang that banner until the early 00s. They didn’t really care to recognize them until it brought them artificially closer to the Celtics.

Didn't know that. It makes it even grosser.

Nothing artificial about it. It is one franchise. But if they're going to claim the titles show them the same respect instead of doing the two step of fronting them to the outside public as normal titles but treating em as third rate in your own house.

Well, it is artificial, imo, because of timing. The franchise was in LA for decades before they decided to recognize them, conveniently on the back end of a three peat with Shaq and Kobe.

Another example of something similar. There was a clause in the agreement with OKC where if Seattle ever gets a franchise again within a period of time, the city would get their championship back. I think OKC would do it regardless of time.

If the LA Lakers honored those championships and players from the day they moved, I wouldn’t care, but the Lakers are inconsistent with it as noted in your OP. That’s what makes it feel artificial.

EDIT: There is also that ‘Drive for Five’ shirt that was made after the 1987 championship which only recognized the 5 championships won in LA to that point.

Again, I wouldn’t really care that the championships get held by the franchise if they wanted to keep them from day 1, but they clearly didn’t care for decades, and then one day, they did.

I have to admit I was ignorant on that they didn't claim for decades. That is lame. They should just put up real banners. Shade em in blue if they want to distinguish the two cities but the way they are doing it is quite disrespectful.

If I was on one of those clubs and still alive today, I wouldn't consider the blue banner an honor. It is fairly obvious that you don't appreciate the collective achievment I was a part of beyond upping your title count.

To play devil’s advocate to myself, I will say I believe fans always counted them all, and even the former Lakers’ players like Mikan from the Minny days preferred to be recognized by the Lakers rather than the Wolves for example.

I just think it’s lame that the ownership groups treated them like nothing for decades.

Nothing artificial about it. Minnesota didn't want the banners so the Lakers honored them by hanging them. It has nothing to do with Boston.

Are you saying that the Wolves given a chance to hang the banners???

I mean the Lakers had the opportunity to hang and honor them for decades before the Wolves even existed. It’s fine and all, but those are just facts. The Lakers didn’t recognize and honor them for decades when they had every opportunity to.

Yes and they should have. Lakers came from Minnesota.

The Lakers have won 17 championships, 12 in LA and 5 in Minny. Celtics fans try to make it as if the Minny championships never happened. They keep editing Wikipedia. Also the Lakers won the championship the year before the NBA formed. It’s crazy how many people don’t appreciate Mikan or the Minny 5 championships. Lakers champions with 5 each are Mikan, Magic, Kobe. Got to respect that

The Lakers themselves didn’t respect them for decades. It’s not about salty Celtics fans. I don’t know how Laker fans ignore literal facts.

Count them; it’s all good. 95% of people count them. Let’s not act like Celtic fans are the only ones who don’t count them when your own ownership groups didn’t count them for decades.

There isn't enough room in the rafters if they also have had to make room for all the Clippers' title banners.

Because it would highlight the awkward truth that Mikan was the greatest Laker ever.
