How come RealGM isn’t mentioned more?

Post#1 » by RoyceDa59 » Fri Jul 8, 2022 3:39 am

Let’s keep in 100.

RealGM is THE BEST & MOST ACTIVE basketball forum on the internet hands down. Everyone knows it and statistically it’s true. Threads are bumping on RealGM.

It’s where you come to find out what the fans are truly thinking. A place where the hardcore, regular fans and even casual fans come to talk all things NBA & bball.

And you KNOW all the pros read these threads and see what the bball community is saying. I guarantee there’s hundreds of them with accounts and even post now and again. It’s the biggest bball forum on the web, there’s no way they don’t. Ball is life.

(Shout out to KD, if/when you see this, hope you come to Toronto, nothing but love for you in Canada. In Masai we trust). Anyways,

I’d even go so far as to say the RealGM community is part of the reason why the NBA narrative has shifted and why everyone cares so much about legacy, championships and where players end up on the all-time goat list. We’ve debated it relentlessly for the past 2 decades and we continue to do so on a daily.

So why do you never hear the talking heads, or NBA players, or media mention RealGM? Is there some unwritten code we don’t know about? How come RealGM, our topics, our polls and our community are not brought up more often with other NBA fanatics in the media?

I read about RealGM in the early 00's and then the magazine I was subscribed to disappeared and I didn't bother going for a different magazine because I now had RealGM for everything I need. My point being other media outlets aren't going to mention their superior free competition because its bad business.

The first part of this is a result of jordan/Magic/Bird debates happening before realgm had any significance. The media elevated jordan to god status really before the internet was a thing.

No talking heads mention realgm because the league is highly scripted and contrived Hollywood style. Narratives are made up throughout the season and games/roster moves fixed.

Its like WWE commissioners not engaging with hardcore wrestling fanatics...they simply don't care when this amount of money/agendas are involved.

Why would they mention an internet forum board of all places?

Realgm itself could've built more, have better sports news section with visuals like ESPN instead of just the WT, created a realgm pod-cast on youtube. Lots of options to build but I guess the creators are happy with what they built.

OP does have a point...if the league actually had pure basketball enthusiasts in mind first (which they don't) they should in theory show love to websites like realgm.

They would rather run hour long segments about Kyries political views or how beyonce was spotted taking a dump at the warriors game

I hit on George Bodenheimer's wife in 2002 and he banned ESPN talent from mentioning my site.

2 things, you don’t see a lot of breaking news coming directly from RealGM
I think because we are fans, majority of what we say/talk about might not be taken too seriously, Even though there are a ton of us with extensive basketball knowledge.

It's awesome here. Especially the T&T forum.

Some minor complaints about the Kings trolls, but hey we deserve 90% of it.

But I tried a local homer site for the Kings. Not for me. Was like a stay positive cult.

Besides, it is nice to see what other fan bases see.

A lot of why people came to RealGM was for the Trade Checker, outside of the Forums. Once ESPN was able to "acquire" the ability to find out the contracts, everyone, even on here, will link ESPN's Trade Machine. Could be formatting or whatever the case, but outside of the Forums and some solid content (my **** was pretty bad because I couldn't self-edit for the life of me at 20), there are a lot of other places to go for NBA content.

Forums represent a small niche of fans. And even as a very active forum we aren’t a large portion of the online discourse, there are other forums, Reddit, and of course various forms of social media.

In short, there’s nothing about us that is particularly worth mentioning.

I would imagine most people younger than 25 have no idea forums like this exist

If there’s a source to get more information.

Would it help MSM?

Would you still subscribe to read opinionated articles where people can just share it here?

MTV and your favorite artists, wont talk about limewire or some file sharing software

I hardly classify RealGM as pure. A lot of what it is is biased fanbases arguing with one another or a bunch of affiliated fans reaffirming their believes.
