He played 14 years in the league with many different teams. Every team liked him on their squad, even Kobe.
Was he any good? What were his strenghts?

He would have been a really solid backup point guard. Kind of like a Monte Morris type of player who's great at running mistake free offense and providing shooting.
Unfortunately for us he wasn't a backup - he started for a couple of years alongside Brandon Roy. And in that role he was a bit over his head.

His stint with Milwaukee was one of the worst I witnessed in a time the franchise was filled with some laughably bad players getting playing time.

He was tough, he could shoot a bit and compete on defense.
Have never seen a player as allergic to the paint as Steve Blake.

At times he was a solid backup point guard. He wasn't terrible, wasn't good. Just... a backup point guard.

Slightly below average role player overall tbh. Though he had a solid year or two.

The guy played tough defense with a good 38% from 3 his career. I can't believe some guys here said he sucked when he played 870 freaking games in the league. You don't get to play 870 games if you sucked

Not saying he's allstar caliber, yes he has his limitations like pull up jumpers, not being able to attack the basket etc.

Denver played Lawson and RObinson at the same time? Must be one of the shortest back courts ever

Best player ever born with six toes on one foot and four on the other.

McConnell is a better facilitator and has better defense and intangibles. He'll mix it up in the paint.
Actually, if you combined the two of them you'd have a half decent player.

Like you said teams liked him because they were always willing to give him a spot. He was a good player and should be remembered as such. Not an AllStar talent, but a smart, hard working, consistent player. One of my pet peeves is when a guy is at the end of his career and washed at that point, fans disrespect the player instead of recognizing how good the player was before Father Time caught up with him.

He was not good at all. He was worst starting pg in the league when he was with Portland. I remember thinking, this guy starts on NBA team, but put him on Panathinaikos, and he's theirs third PG without any doubt (they had Diamantidis and Jasikevicius). Guy was from same vein as Beno Udrih, one of the worst players with real role on NBA team. He was less talented than Monte Moris. And TJ Macconelle, are you crazy, Macconelle has elite skills, Soft porn is more like Raul Neto type guy, he just wasn't that good at all, I didn't like him.
