If I'm currently a rebuilding team, I want to hire the best skilled woman HC.

So many positives in making this move:

#1 Great Branding,
a lot of people will give you fantastic xp for finally giving a woman a chance to lead men in a major sports league.

#2 More chances for Women
As soon as first hire for HC for Woman happens, more teams around the league will be giving woman a chance to become HC of their teams.

#3 Inspiriration
Can inspire young ladies who love the sport of Basketball and want to get into coaching, more confidence to get into coaching as you can now coach men & women!

Those are 3 big reasons

Of course there are some risks involved:


Downside:

#1 Too much of distraction
This will become one of the main headlhines of the regular season. But if you have smart front office, this will won't be much distraction for long.

#2 She's not good
She turns out to be bad hire and mediocre HC. Thats unfortunate but there has been plenty of men who were hired and were medicore or worst as HCs in the league. One bad hire shouldn't stop you for taking a big swing.



CONCLUSION:

Overall if I'm team thats rebuilding and might need new HC. I'm going for best woman HC available. I know it's dumb to limit your pool to one gender but that's what major leagues have been doing for 50+ years, we're in 2022 so gotta switch it up.

Teams who will most likely hire new HC next year for 2023/24 season:

San Antonio (If Pop retires), Portland (If Blazers dont make at least the play in) NY Knicks (If don't trade for DMitch and finally fully commit to rebuild)

Wizards (If they at least dont make play in) Pistons (If team isn't at least 12th in East)

I think the best person for the job should be hired - regardless of age, race or sex.

If that person happens to be a female, then power to them.

There will not be a woman head coach in the NBA by 2027.

Stop it, the only thing any employer should be looking for is the most qualified and suitable person.

Qualified from a skills/academic/experience perspective and suitable referring to other factors which may affect how well you can perform in the role.

I’m not going out of my way to hire someone simply for the PR, regardless of whether I’m rebuilding or competing for a ring. In fact if you’re rebuilding and only hiring because they’re a woman, you could be setting them up to fail and all the criticism that will come with that of a rebuilding team and the associated growing pains

There are a number of VERY qualified women head coaching candidates (Cheryl Reeve is a basketball genius, though I doubt she ever leaves the Lynx), but from my perspective, hiring the first woman NBA head coach as a gimmick sets up both parties for failure.

I think Ivey's mom becomes a coach in the NBA one day. Shes already been watching film tapes on our team with her son .

Plus i know she was a assistant with the Grizzlies, a WNBA coach and a good PG in her playing days.

And she's hot

Why are women in the NBA viewed as such a positive but no one views the WNBA? There is an entire league of women that no one watches, so how is it an advancement for the NBA game to include women now?

While this sounds great on paper, I think it is naive. People are not given equal rights, treatment and opportunities in our societies.

Why’s that? I run a business myself and I hire based on who is best for the job. That’s not just based on qualifications and experience, but do they fit with my current team? If they are the best, I don’t give a damn in the world who they are or what they look like.

Why wouldn’t a multi billion dollar industry run on the same principals?

When doesn't it become a gimmick though? I feel like there's always a lot of prerequisites/built-in excuses when it comes to hiring a woman head coach (not that you're doing it, just from what I've seen from others). I think some people use it as a cover to not want to see it happening.

Things I commonly see:

1. Team will look bad when they inevitably fire her (My argument is: NBA coaching is a revolving door anyway, it shouldn't be a big issue as long as they got a fair shot which is a few seasons.)

2. Players won't respect them (Which I disagree with, if anything a lot of NBA players are advocates of the WNBA and would be completely fine playing for a good coach regardless of gender. Hell, some of these kids getting drafted had moms in the WNBA who taught them the game.)

3. People would complain about hiring a woman for a tanking job because of how hard the job is, but then if it was a more established job, tons of people would argue how there are way more established male candidates and they only got the prestigious job because they're a woman.)

I get what you mean though, you don't want to do it JUST because they're a woman and to be a team that suddenly gets talked about or has buzz around it for the sole fact that you were the first team to hire a woman as a head coach, but I feel like within the next few years it'll happen because there will be qualified individuals. At the end of the day all that matters is if they're qualified and knowledgeable to be an NBA head coach. Some women may not be cut out for it, just like a lot of men aren't either. That's perfectly fine.

Isn't there an assistant coach already? Becky Hamon or something? I think she'd be the obvious HC candidate, but there might be some obvious respect issue from the players, who hook up with like tens of girls each outing.

It's not about being woke or it being 2022. Women are smarter and tend to make more rational judgments. Leaders, advisors, teachers, and coaches should have more prominent women. Almost every sector and sphere would be better for it

We know most of the NBA players are little manlets whose fragile egos doesn't let women to tell them what to do on the court. Its just a sad reality. That said I would rather hire Hammond than half of these 0 experience new coaches.

But the reason why affirmative action exists is that people in power routinely could not be trusted to hire the best candidate for the job, separate from other factors

You would hope a qualified candidate gets a look and if they are the best person available ultimately the job, but we know there are politics in every high profile job.

A women coach would be a huge distraction. Honestly I feel a well established team core and culture would be the best fit for the first female head coach. Not a team with young undeveloped players and a losing culture. It's kind of disrespectful to use a women to take away from all the other ills of a franchise.

There are plenty of amazing women that are totally qualified to be NBA HCs but I’m not hiring someone for a “brand” or for other people to feel better.

I’m hiring the person who gives me the best chance to win games don’t care if they’re a man, woman, or anything else

But that also presupposes an even playing field where history has shown otherwise.
