I think Mavs are getting really underrated. They lost Brunson but that means they can throw out really big lineups only. They brought in Wood to steer in to that direction.

Doncic, Bullock, DFS, Wood, McGee -- Dinwiddie, THJ, Green, Kleber, Powell

Mostly good but I'd change:

Dallas: C instead of D. IF they can unlock Woods

Golden State: C- instead of B+. Not seeing how losing GP2 and Porter is offset with the guys they got

Clippers: C instead of B+. I don't think Wall is nearly as valuable as Hartenstein was

Lakers: F instead of B+. They fired the coach who won them a championship, replaced him with a rookie coach and did nothing to address the underlying issues as Westbrook is still on the team and Anthony Davis doesn't seem that interested in basketball. They did nothing to add outside shooting and in fact got worse in that regard

It seems like he gave almost everyone close to the same grade. lol.

He should’ve just ditched the vanilla grades and called the piece “Western Conference Offseason Summary.”

From my eye test during the playoffs , Dallas struggle was defending the Warriors. But that is also a struggle for most teams.

Golden State: C- instead of B+. Not seeing how losing GP2 and Porter is offset with the guys they got
Over the years they seem to plug people in and make things work . Maybe more G league guys in their future ?

Clippers: C instead of B+. I don't think Wall is nearly as valuable as Hartenstein was
Clippers best moves were resigning their own free agents such as : Roger Covington , Nic Batum , Ivica Zubac , Amir Coffee and THEN the addition of John Wall who is not being picked up to be a franchise player. He will just be a point guard out there, playing defense and racking up assists. Sure there will be open shots that he will have to take. But will be a 3rd or 4th option on offense.

Lakers: F instead of B+. They fired the coach who won them a championship, replaced him with a rookie coach and did nothing to address the underlying issues as Westbrook is still on the team and Anthony Davis doesn't seem that interested in basketball. Non Laker fans can not deny the bubble chip. They won but have fallen off a cliff ever since. Injuries have something to do with that but we will have to let the season unfold.

I think a D grade is harsh for the Mavs.

I think a C is a little more fair. Wood and McGee are both upgrades over what they had last year, but I can’t believe they haven’t spent a single dime on guards this summer.

Heaven help us if they expect Josh Green, Tim Hardaway, or Frank Ntilikina to replace Jalen Brunson

I'm grossed out by the only A going to a team that has decided to lose a ton of basketball games for the next 2-3 years while waiting for lottery balls to bounce their way. 2 of the 4 B+ also went to teams that have given up on winning for the next few years.

The NBA's CBA that underpays rookies/superstars has terrible consequences for fans. It encourages teams to lose.

And they still have Mitchell.

Whats the plan, hope one of the lottery balls is as good as Rudy Gobert in 5-10 years?

"There's still plenty of work for the Jazz." seems to mean Pelton's hoping and expecting Ainge will ship Mitchell out soon.

A lot of NBA experts and realgm posters dream of an NBA were half the NBA goes 70-12 and the other half goes 12-70. With franchise filling both roles every decade.

Agree with the first point. The Jazz cannot be an "A" until they trade Mitchell.

As far as the second point, it was probably too good of a deal to pass up to trade Gobert. Your comment is why I think it was a good trade for the Timberwolves. I think for the Jazz, between the age of the veterans besides Mitchell, and the lack of under 25 assets, they needed to hit the reset button. The chance of getting a guy in the next two years in the draft better than Gobert is probably 25% or less, but in this situation I think they just have to move in that direction.

Danny Ainge got such a ridiculous haul from the TWolves for Gobert that he can sit back and wait for some other team to pony up the assets required in this overinflated trade market for Mitchell. If he had received that pick package for Mitchell AND Gobert it wouldn't have been that bad of a deal.
