I'm taking Connecticut. But it's hard to be confident. All 4 top seeds are talented, deep and experienced and could potentially come out on top.

Jonquel Jones and Dewanna Bonner are my personal favorite players so I've been rooting for them since they teamed up on the Sun. So this is kind of a homer pick I guess, but a decent one imo. They've been right there the last few years and I think this is when they get it done. It does seem like Chicago has been their kryptonite this season though so if I have a concern it has to be the Sky. And the Aces are legit as well.

Going to be a real battle though. The talent level is at an all-time high and I'm excited for a fun playoffs.

Paige Bueckers from UConn? She tore her ACL in a pick up game and will be out for the whole college season.

Back to the playoffs, I'm glad the league went for a more traditional system. And best of three games in the first round! Excellent.

I’ve got Vegas winning it all, they’re just insanely deep especially in their backcourt and A’ja Wilson would probably be my runner up for MVP after Breanna Stewart this year.

From what I've seen, which isn't much.. Caitlin Clark is flat out better that Paige. I feel pretty comfortable saying it too.

Wait, do they seed teams regardless of conference? Or is it still East vs. West?

Edit: Nevermind. I see that it's seeding regardless of conference. Something I wish the NBA would actually do as well.

I'm guessing he WAS referring to Caitlin Clark. But she's also still in college (Iowa).

DeWanna Bonner is a master of the jump stop step through move, which I think is very underexploited, especially in the men's game, because people who don't understand the rules think it's a travel (and there have been ridiculously long threads on this forum arguing about it):

Hey, I am jonesing for some basketball. Would love to watch some of these games, can anyone suggest which of these matchups are likely to be the most competitive and entertaining?

The WNBA isn’t bad but 8 out of 12 teams in the playoffs is redundant. Either add Oakland and another city like Louisville and make the WNBA 14 teams or make it a 6 team playoff.

Las Vegas probably the favorite, Chicago Sky probably could steal it as well

Clark is ridiculous and obviously has way more range but imo Bueckers is much more explosive and is a little more athletic. Now that's probably not going to matter with her recent injury.

The top 4 seeds seem pretty likely to win their 1st round matchups. They are just plain the best 4 teams. But you can't overlook the Mystics with Elena Delle Donne and their past championship experience, so I think the 4/5 matchup will be most competitive. And I think NY can put up good fight, they are playing well to end the year.

Beyond that the Mercury have been a perennial contender for years but Taurasi is finally slowing down a bit and the team just hasn't been themselves this year because of the Griner situation. The NY Liberty are fun, they have Sabrina Ionescu who's been a killer this year, Marine Johannes is fun and their center Han Xu has a chance to be really special. And the Dallas Wings have some exciting young players led by Arike Ogunbowale.

#1 Aces have former MVP A'ja Wilson, Kelsey Plum who's been nuts this year, Chelsea Grey and a deep and talented roster all around.
#2 Chicago Sky are the defending champs led by Candace Parker, Vandersloot, Allie Quigley and Kahleah Copper.
#3 Connecticut has reigning MVP Jonquel Jones and a deep and talented veteran roster including Alyssa Thomas, Bonner, Brionna Jones and Courtney Williams. They play great defense and like to get out on the break.
And #4 Seattle has former MVP Breanna Stewart and all time great Sue Bird, plus Jewel Loyd and others. They are really good on offense and can score a ton of points.

I expect the top 4 seeds to advance and then the 2nd round and championship series should be excellent.

So first off, glad to see this thread emerge as this post-season arrives. No sin to not pay attention to the WNBA, but if as a basketball fan you don't realize that the vast majority of basketball is the same between this and the NBA, you're just silly. Women can't get airborne the same way, but if all you're watching the NBA for is the airborne moments, you're basically the definition of a casual.

JazzUte88 wrote:The WNBA isn’t bad but 8 out of 12 teams in the playoffs is redundant. Either add Oakland and another city like Louisville and make the WNBA 14 teams or make it a 6 team playoff.

I'd say I agree with all of this though I'd note that last year the Sky were the 6th seed and won the chip decisively. Taking only half the teams is a reasonable cutoff, and the Sky last year would have still qualified by that threshold...but there are things about the WNBA season (shorter, more affected by the schedules of other basketball commitments from the players) that make including teams with mediocre records less of a waste of a time than it is in the NBA.

I do think the WNBA should be looking to try expansion to 14 teams, and if momentum continues, I'd aim for 16 as a place to stick too for a good while, with an 8 team playoff when they do so.

In terms of the cities involved, really depends on who is interested in owning the team. If the Warriors want a women's team, that would be perfect, but if they don't, other markets might be better.

Among areas that aren't necessarily obvious, I'd throw out Nashville/Knoxville, Tennessee with no connection to the Memphis Grizzlies as an option for reasons similar to why Connecticut has a WNBA team - major college roots.
