OT: Is the Rise of The 3 Point Shot the Cause of the Rise in Gun Violence?

Post#1 » by bballfan1three3 » Wed Sep 21, 2022 5:40 am

Tl;Dr the NBA 's promotion of the 3 pointer may be behind the explosion in gun violence

What is happening, people in McDonald's bringing guns to work, Chicago, lots of violence, rural Ohio, New York, Los Angeles, all over, same story, EXPLOSION of gun violence.

Why????

I believe ever since the NBA has promoted the 3 pointer and "shooter" culture they are unwantedly behind the rise in street crime. Why? Simple: people are better shots now, with their 3 pointer and with their gun, thanks to the NBA promoting farther and farther shots, and accuracy over muscle/post play (also first person shooter video games).

No one's afraid of someone wildly firing a gun. They're not gonna hit anything. But an accurate spray n pray'er? Absolutely lethal on the streets. Some of the people come from violent, mean streets. They see Steph Curry on TV. They go, "he's a shooter and he's world famous for it. I want to he famous. I want to be like Steph. I need to start shooting." They go outside, the land lord demolished the basketball court because it wasn't generating enough revenue. He turned it into a condo. So they think, "well I still gotta practice my shooting somewhere. Time to go get mom's gun."

Next thing you know 5 people are dead. All because of the NBA and Steve Kerr/Steph Curry.

Now I'm not saying this is Steph 's fault- it's the NBA's fault. He is a symptom, not the cause. The NBA needs to encourage strong, fundamental, inside the paint basketball. Not this outside shooter nonsense- it just causes problems. When every day youths are hearing about 'outside weapons' and 'shooters' that kinda stuff gets to them. They internalize it. They think, "it's my time to be a shooter. I want to be a weapon. I want a million dollars."

How can this be stopped? I don't know. But the NBA needs to put their foot down and stop being a symptom. They need to be a solution.

For what? The NBA and sports in general meme-ify violence and encourage it. Ever heard of Conor McGregor? One of the most famous people alive. Famous for kicking people's heads in. What is that telling people? Violence is the answer? I suppose 'scoring' a basket is a violence in itself, perpetrated against the basket... Modern society is complex and should be dissected more often on an intellectual level.

How many times has ESPN replayed Ron Artest elbowing Harden in the head? The more you think....

So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

You have it backwards.

Gun violence leads to three pointers.

All you people who complain about too many three pointers, here's your solution: Stop gun violence now.
Just because it happened to you, doesn't make it interesting.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

Yesterday I was lying; today I'm telling the truth.

In Spanish, we don't shoot a 3-pointer, we "throw" it

Anyway great thread OP. Five stars.

Though I can't help but wonder if physical basketball wouldn't just encourage other forms of violence? Well I guess guns are much more dangerous than hips and butts and shoulders. Still really gets the noggin joggin'.
