Apparently Wemby is working with Dirk's old shooting coach, Holger Geschwindner.

His potential as a shooter is what was new information to me watching those exhibition games. I knew the man had knocked down some jumpers and had decent form, but in those exhibition games he showed real touch and the versatility to shoot out of different actions/situations.

He's been about a 70% free throw shooter over his young career. That number isn't damning or encouraging really, but I think it qualifies as his touch being legit. I didn't know he had it in him to basically go on runs and shoot his team back into games. Both exhibition games, Metropolitan 92 was down and then Victor would just catch fire and put them back in the game.

I'm not an expert on him after only watching those 2 games earlier this week and some other highlights etc. But man, this kid is really amazing.

The mobility and skillset at that size is special. He can handle, shoot, he's got moves and is very well developed at his age. And he'll be a huge force on defense. Seems like a smart, confident kid as well.

I'm not really worried about injury potential either. I mean anyone can get injured but VW seems strong and well put together for an 18 year old giant. His body looks like it has room to add bulk and muscle as he ages and gets in the weight room. He looks more durable than guys like Chet or Poku or Bol for example.

So yeah, I'm not surprised he's getting this much buzz. He's something very unique and on top of the potential, the dude is really skilled and can already play.

I cannot disagree with anything you said…. It’s going to be a pleasure to see what he’s made of in the best league in the world, His confidence is fantastic for 18 year old and his maturity speaks volume especially consider the attention he gets and will be getting after these 2 games.

The biggest weakness I saw in his game in those exhibitions was his passing. He definitely looks to pass a lot, but he's hopelessly slow in how he's reading the game right now. He tried a couple of flashy passes into traffic and didn't even come close to finding his target. It's nice that he wants to pass. That could really pay off for his long term development, but he's so far from being NBA level in how he reads the game as a passer right now. When you look at his stats (per36) you see 2.7 turnovers for every 1.5 assists. That's some Hassan Whiteside level passing right there.

He's only 18-years-old and hasn't been in this high usage role yet. He could improve at this so quickly just by getting the reps. But I think it's something that merits attention as we gush over his unprecedented potential.

Since your mentioning this i notice this last season watching his game in the 2nd division i really agree with you, with higher coaching, along with reps and understanding when and where to pass especially at key moments will only make him grow
more as a complete player.

That’s nice ngl when I saw those two or three fadeaways in the exhibition games I was like „ dude that looked like Dirks flamengo would be nice if he or holger would work with him“. Seems like Victor was way ahead :D

Victor Wembanyama will have a bigger hype train than LeBron James had

Post#18 » by TwitterFingers » Sat Oct 8, 2022 10:20 pm

People forget back when LeBron was a young prospect there was no social media. Now every story is amplified. Plus Victor Wembanyama can do things you don’t see players do that are 7ft. tall. I don’t think he’ll end up being better than LeBron, but I do think he’ll be a bigger story leading up to the draft than LeBron was.

You have to take into account the pretty low level of his teammates. It was also true at l'ASVEL. During those 2 exibition games, he had some pretty decent passes that his teammates were unable to convert.
