2022-23 NBA MVP Discussion (Pt.1)

Post#1 » by Floody100 » Sun Oct 23, 2022 7:45 am

I get it’s early but I think a player’s hot start definitely helps his chances of winning MVP which is why I’ve started this years discussion. Plus it’s always interesting to hear everyone else’s opinion regardless if it’s biased or not

Note: The poll is set up so you can change your vote as the players jockey for position throughout the season.

The best players in the league starting out strong for the most part. Too early to make any predictions but it should be a fun race this year (well, at least for anyone not reading through the inevitable toxicity that we'll get to see in this thread haha).

I think the short breaks for those who played international basketball (Giannis, Luka, Jokic) and those who played in the Finals (Curry, Tatum) has helped them hitting the ground running. The question, of course, is whether or not the short break will take its toll later in the season.

Giannis, Tatum, Luka and Morant are the main candidates after 2-3 games (haha).

RGM needs to ban MVP discussion till at least 15-20% of the season has been played.

Giannis should have been MVP last year too, deal with it. Now he’s winning without Middleton so he deserves it for winning more with less like Jokic has gotten rewarded for.

Going to say (based upon games/team record to date) Tatum, Giannis, and Luka. Would also mention Paul George (27/8/5 on a 2-0 team) and Brandon Ingram (28/8/6 on a 2-0 team) as well. I'm sure others could be thrown in the mix too. Dame? Jokic? Ja?
Jokic 31/21/22
Luka & Oscar = 5 x 27/8/8
The Brodie = All-out energy

Tatum just passed Bird for the highest points scored in the first 3 games of a Celtics season. He's on a personal mission to avenge the Finals loss. I wouldn't bet against him to win MVP. In the post game interview last night, after starting the year 3-0, he sounded a little mad, saying the team had to play better. Didn't like the points they've been allowing. He's looking to move into elite status this season.

Beating two 0-1 teams doesn’t exactly jump off the page. And missing 15 games last year didn’t exactly help his cause.

Waaaaaaaay too early for this discussion though.

A lot of people said "Dallas isn't going to be good enough for Luka to win MVP"

I think last night may have silenced some of these people. Dallas doesn't need anyone but Luka to be the offense but now they have Christian Wood who is dropping 25 ppg in the two games he's played OFF THE BENCH

Dallas is going to be very good, expect a 50-60 win season from this team. The defense hasn't gone away. They were cleaning up PHX until Monty Williams made adjustments and PHX are a good team.

This very much seems like Luka's season to win MVP. He already puts up MVP #s, he'll average something like 30-9-9, all that needs to happen is Dallas needs to win 55 games and he's 100% the MVP.

I think Luka will win the MVP award, but Giannis is still the best player in basketball.

Tatum usually starts the season cold shooting the ball but this year he's been a monster from the first jump ball. He made a big leap over the course of last season and now he looks like the grown man super-version of that dude.

I don't know why people are getting upset about this thread, after all, don't you realize that we need more "discussions" here on the GM!!!!

Currently, Luka, Jayson Tatum, and Ja are making loud statements with their performances and asserting themselves as front runners.
