I have JJJ as DPOY

Glad people are realising Jaden McDaniels is a premier Defender in the league. If he stopped some silly mistakes he would easily be in the first team

Hope he sneaks onto second, He's one of the top handful of defenders in trhew league

Bam needs to be talked about more here. He is the defense on the Heat and now he is also expanding his offensive game. He is avg 20/10/3

I did another poll reset. Results from the last poll are recorded in OP.

I'm going to put OG Anunoby on the shelf for this round of voting. Just because he's winning them too easily with the Raptor vote and we're not getting an accurate reflection of the race. I'm still a huge fan, and if the Raps can right the ship in the second half of the season, he'll be back in the next poll. He's the best perimeter defender in the NBA, and probably one of the best help defenders of any wing. Absolutely ridiculous. But the Raps defense is super disappointing this year, so it's hard for them to have a player in this race right now.

I put no wings in the poll this time around (Sorry OG, Jaden McDaniels, Jimmy Butler, and Ben Simmons!). I added Draymond to the poll.

I’m starting to have second thoughts about Claxton, especially as it pertains to Allen. Allen is still the better overall player, but in the games I’ve seen recently, and for a while in fact, Claxton’s defensive impact has been greater.

Glad to know you're finally coming around, after being so adamant about Allen being much better. Next step is admitting that Claxton is the better overall player.

Not so fast there mate.

Claxton is still not on Allen’s level offensively. Allen is still a better rebounder and a much better passer (I don’t think people realize how great Allen is in that department).

But defensively, I no longer feel Allen has any advantage over Claxton anymore. It feels like Allen has dropped off at that end as the year has gone on. Claxton, on the other hand, impresses me more and more with each game he plays. His recovery on defense is fantastic. His rim protection is top notch. And he’s really great at closing out on perimeter players. His superior length also gives him an advantage over Allen overall. He’s not just better in that regard, but even if Allen goes back to the player he was on that end towards the beginning of the season, it’s not going to be better than what Claxton is now.

But Claxton has ways to go before he can reach Allen’s level overall. Can he get there? Perhaps with time. And for the Nets sake, I hope he does. It more than makes up for the disastrous James Harden trade and it puts Brooklyn in an even better position than they were in at the time.

Claxton is really growing. His game has tons more to grow into also. I think he has a nice offensive game in there and just needs to get more polished with it. Right now he is concentrating on defense and rebounding but he has these hints of offense that make you believe in the future for him. Main goal should be free throw shooting. Allen is a better shooter.

I think Bam has been one of the best defenders in the world the past 4 years, and I think it's unfortunate that he only played 56 games last year in what was his best chance to win it (with Draymond and Gobert finally falling out of the driver's seat for this award).

I have Bam in my top 3 this year. He doesn't get enough buzz. But I don't think he's ever clearly been the best defender in the NBA. He's an amazing perimeter defender at his size, he's tremendously strong, and he's also a smart defender. But he's not the craziest rim protector out there. Sometimes he's kind of small. Miami strings him out to dry a lot too.

Imagine basing DPOY on BPG

If you know Miamis scheme you know he’s not protecting the rim non stop, he’s all over the place. Mainly the perimeter

The runaway favorite is on pace to miss nearly 30 games this season and only plays 26 MPG because he can’t stay out of foul trouble

I wouldn't call it runaway favorite in this poll - look at the MVP poll for what runaway looks like  . the fact that he's not averaging 30 minutes a game is what's keeping him back from being the runaway favorite. But his impact in those minutes cannot be argued; best in the league.

I am surprised how much of a favorite he is in Vegas though - has the best odds by a wide margin. In the case of Lopez, Claxton and OG, the explanations are easy.
- Lopez and Claxton tied for 2nd best odds are good but not DPOY caliber in the heads of most people
- OG (tied for 3rd best odds with Bam) is on a non-playoff team and it seems weird to give this to someone on a non-playoff team

I don't get why Bam is so underrated though. I'd bet on him rising as the Heat rise in the ladder.

Claxton is literally all over the place as well, he's not just a rim protector. He guards point guards and wings effectively and even gets blocks on them too, alot of his blocks have been from jumpshots not at the rim. And blocks have definitely been a major factor in DPOY consideration, look at all the DPOY winners in the last 30 years, except for wing defenders.
