Clipper Darrell, a big presence in the stands at Clippers games for the past two decades, was knocked out in a fight with arena security in the concourse on Monday night.
The security guard was fired and arrested.
Law enforcement capacity? If he's a security guard his job is to observe and report to an adult. They aren't in any way shape or form law enforcement. Now, I'd agree people who work those jobs are normally the wrong people to get hands on with as they likely think they're law enforcement and are more likely to be volatile and unstable. But call them that.
Exactly. It's the security guard's job to warn off and de-escalate people from bad behavior. If that fails, ring in a real cop/sheriff to take care of things, of which there are many in the arena. Why? Due to liability reasons, now Clipper Darrell can sue the ever living **** out of the security company/Staples/Ballmer etc. Now if a cop/sheriff went trigger happy in dishing out an unwarranted ass whooping for no reason, the cop can get off scot free due to qualified immunity, or the cops gets sued and are forced to make the payout settlement, and not security company/Staples/Ballmer etc being held liable. All it costs is the security guard's pride looking a bit like a pussy for not dropping Darrell on the spot, but that's what his job is for, observe and report. This is what keeping it too real ends up looking like.
