Harden Talks About Nets Tenure: "the other star there [Durant] wanted to leave. So it's like: Am I still the quitter?"

Harden on "him quitting on the Nets":
"I knew people were going to talk and say, 'You quit' and all that stuff, but then the following summer, the other superstar there [Durant] wanted to leave. So it's like: Am I still the quitter?"

Harden on Nets' lack of organizational structure:
"I don't mean to, like, just down talk to anybody or whatever. It was just, there was no structure and even superstars, they need structure. That's what allows us to be the best players and leaders for our respective organizations. ... I just feel like, internally, things weren't what I expected when I was trying to get traded there. I think everybody knows that."

Harden on injury frustrations:
According to a friend, Harden also became frustrated with the Nets training staff and its focus on maintenance, rest and recovery; after all, in Houston he'd run stadium stairs and lift – even after games sometimes – and he never got hurt.

I asked Harden how he'd describe his time in Brooklyn. He hesitated. His first answer was that it was tough because "I wasn't able to get healthy."

So what he's saying is when Embiid wants out, he's going to quit on Philly too?

It just did not work out for James here in Brooklyn. It happens.

We do have some great memories of him. The man is special talent and we wish him well.

James harden this season has been much better then last season . Dude is averaging 22 pts 11 assists 7 boards this season and since he returned from the foot injury he is averaging 23 pts 14 assists 8 boards on over50 percent shooting.

He is moving way better.

Uh, yeah that does make him a quitter. I'm glad he hasn't won anything. He hasn't earned that right to.

Yes, he's still a quitter. That Durant wanted to leave happened later and does not retroactively change that he quit months prior. A Durant-Harden-Irving trio would still be a strong contender and Durant likely wouldn't have wanted to leave had Harden not quit.

To this day, I would still argue that Harden has a better chance of winning a ring playing with the Nets' Durant-Irving than playing with the Sixers' Embiid-Maxey. He quit and it's still the wrong decision.

This year’s health version of Harden absolutely. They would be favorites.

How were the Nets 'a mess' in terms of Harden?

Every year under the reboot, they put together a bunch of talent around their stars, spent top money for some of the best / largest coaching & fitness staffs, and have catered to their stars as much as you'll ever see.

If there's someone who's chronically unprofessional about taking care of himself and living the 'pure athlete's life,' it's mos def Harden. From what I understand, he was rather legendary in HOU with his after game strip-club visits, hooker parties, and boozing it up.

Marks actually let him continue his ways with BRK, and you can find articles on this shizzle if you google it up.

Especially annoying about this interview is that at best, he's only hinting at what he MIGHT have had issue with. It's mainly just gas & fumes as I read it.

Its been well documented there has been free reign for Kyrie and Durant to run the whole team. Nash was just a puppet. Common man. Harden was unprofessional sure but don’t act like the Nets were run like a conventional franchise

Moreso Durant, as the 'stable one.'

Not so much Kyrie. Kyrie has basically been an enabling-job by the Nets since day one in order to keep him from going off the rails, and of course he still goes off the rails every season on this or that.

Regardless-- are you trying to tell you've never heard about 'superstar treatment' before?

"Conventional franchise," my arse.

Remember that one time Kobe asked out and Stern gave him Pau Gasol so he'd stay?

The nets were the on
The extreme end of enabling. I guess we have to agree to disagree.

Oh, give me a break.

Have you read about how Morey enabled Harden in his HOU days?

Lol... now you want to snipe the Nets for enabling the Beard as a 1B behind KD, basically?

He didn't quit. Harden wanted out of a toxic situation, a mistake, and we know Kevin Durant wanted out, too.

well. harden was a late comer to the mess. the nets weren't his fault

3 stars and he was the closest to experience with leading a team. the other two had none
