if harden signs with the rockets, that would mean he happily embraced the mentor role with the sole purpose of helping young players develop, he knows they wont be competitive and he wouldnt be playing to put up huge numbers

He wants the max and Philly is trying to low ball him. He may have been ok with a 1 year discount, but im guessing he wants a real long term big money contract to end his career and Philly is, rightfully, hesitant. But theyre not in any place to say no to that, as Harden walking may have Embiid wanting out.

And ya, Houston would be dumb to say no. You got enough young talent and a billion picks; you dont say no to a star that wants to come play for you if all it takes is cap space.
