such a horrible coddled generation

not everyone obviously

but Murray is a great example of that
good player but entitlement is just oozing out of him
he's talking like a 3 time champion when he hasn't accomplished all that much

but u pay a young kid 100M+ to play basketball and be ultra famous so that's what ya get

I was waiting for the "not a good mentor" part and it's just that Tony decided to go elsewhere?

So he's saying he took Tonys job and he didn't like it. I don't think either side is wrong on this. He played good enough to get the job and Tony wasn't happy about losing the job.

Why would any veteran with a good a career as Parker like getting benched for a young guy? Seems like Murray expected Parker to just stand there and embrace getting demoted.

If one sees this video without knowing who Murray is, one would think he's an accomplished, multiple time All-Star, All-NBA, legendary playoff performer, laser focused, "winning above all" kind of player.

Come on man... as much as you (surely) went through a lot (don't we all?), many, many people walked in your shoes since way back when.

He's one of the best 250 players in the world. He's accomplished a chit ton the second he stepped onto an NBA floor. I dunno about yall, but if i get a multi-million dollar contract when im like 19 with the potential to make 100's of millions, ya, ima be feeling myself too.

No he literally said he's fine with Tony not liking it "Keeping it 100, I'm love you for that" is his quote. He's just stating the fact that Tony wasn't happy. This thread is misleading. Murray didn't care, he worked and got the job.

Didn't Tony leave because Charlotte offered him a better deal?

I'm not a fan of Dejounte's comments here but the tweet/thread title doesn't really reflect the interview.

Murray is an incredible player, and Tony Parker may have not liked him, but a lot of what he says about the spurs at least is pure conjecture.

He joined the 2017 spurs as a 29th pick. That team was one of the best teams of the last 10 years, or maybe ever. They might have won the championship if Kawhi hadn't been injured by Zaza. It's hardly a travesty that Murray didn't get much playing time as a rookie.

Then as a sophomore he gained the team's confidence. He was given playing time, and as he states in the interview, he was handed the starting job over spurs legend Tony Parker. Eventually a few years later their offense was run through him.

Clearly the relationship didn't work. He's expressed that here and in other interviews, and he was traded, but I doubt the way he characterizes the Spurs is totally true, and I'm sure they wanted the best for him.

Also, on Greg Popovich not wanting players from the hood - Pop has great relationships with so many players from he hood. Players he coached on the Spurs and on team USA. Derozan, Lebron, to name a couple off the top of my head.

Why is he acting like Tony demanded to be traded instead of mentoring him? Tony was a free agent but Dejounte sounds like he wanted Tony to stick around for less money so he could hold his hand and guide him through the process of being a starter. Shows a bit of immaturity and lack of understanding about the nature of the business.

Is this like taken out of context or something. I just listened to the clip and he seems to be complaining about nonsense.

Got drafted to a veteran team and wasnt handed the starting job. But when he showed good work ethic they gave him the starting job over the long time vet. What exactly is the issue there?

Also I dont get the dig at TP either (and Im not one to defend TP). So they reward Murray the starting job over TP and my guess is TP was being nice to save face but wanted out (reasonable in my opinion). "cause if he liked it, he wouldve mentored me the way he should have." What are you talking about?

Honestly from this I just take it he was angry he had to earn the starting job and it wasnt just handed to him. And he's not happy that TP didnt say to his face he wasnt cool with him taking his job, because if he was he wouldve mentored him like he should have? Dude left to get one more better deal before he retired and to play with his countryman and friend. There is some heavy entitlement in that video.

He coached those guys as veterans not kids, and coaches do try to break in kids from the hood like this. They did this to a kid I know where they gave him the wrong jersey number and intentionally said his name wrong. College football coaches have been caught on tape threatening “or it’s back to the ghetto” if they aren’t perfectly obedient. But its his feelings again, which is the point of these interviews

What a clown man. This just proves what a fake and immature person DJ is. He felt slighted that he didnt start right away for a team that came off 67 wins and drafted him with the 29th pick? Dude is a clown and I'm glad the Spurs sold high on his ass. Fakest player Spurs have had in recent memory. His little social media tantrums and BS over the years all make sense now.

Like, wtf is he even talking about? Laprovittola played less than 20 games before the Spurs waived him in DJ's rookie season (9mpg!) and he wants to act slighted over this? When the Spurs were still winning 60 games competing for chips and he was a ROOKIE? He also said many times the Spurs saved him and never held his past against him yet he's here crying about he felt they were judging him EVEN THOUGH THEY NEVER SAID IT. Seriously, clown level stuff

If you felt you're better than a team full of multiple champions and HOFers, especially after falling to 29 in the first round, then you're probably just immature and need to grow tf up, imho :noway:
