It's certainly a fun exercise, and not a bad "combination" way of answering the question, props to the person for taking the time

They gave their parameters, so whatever . Best individual regular season since the 80's is the question being answered.

Makes sense. I think for us middle aged/older folk who were around to see MJ's run up to his first three peat, he was just an incredible player and I haven't seen anyone come close since.

87-93 Jordan is indescribable, best ever and it’s not even close.

I thought his criteria was terrible. Defense barely taken into consideration, and ASG MVP rather than regular MVP lol??

Without +/- data prior to 96-97 aside from some spotty league wide data from 93-94 through 95-96 and the Sixers/opponents data from the preceding 20 years this is a tough exercise. The box score only tells you how good someone is at accumulating box score stats.

When I watched through a few minutes, I was left thinking that stats are like different colours of paint, and the argument is the canvas.

I think Kawhi for that short period with the Raptors is as close as anyone has gotten in terms of just dominating on both sides of the ball.

Some follow up observations to seeing information like this is:

A) How did Steve Nash and Tim Duncan win 2 MVPs each when they never had a Top 50 season?

B) This type of information makes it easier to argue a case for Curry, Jokic, Giannis and Luka in the All-Time Top 10 when they are done playing, over some of the old legends who never had a Top 50 season (Magic, Bird and Duncan). Jokic over Bird, Giannis over Duncan, Curry or Luka over Magic.

Fans of the younger guys should take note and use these arguments.

Having the all-star MVP mean something makes this entire analysis pretty crap.

That said, I agree late 80s and early 90s Jordan is the highest 5 to 6 year peak prime of all time.

Giannis the last 5 years, Jokic the last 3 years have also likely had top 10 stretches of peak/prime in NBA history as well.

I think allotting 5 points for All-Star MVP was odd too. It only adds 5 points though, which does not seem to really impact the list. For example:

A) The 5 points is not going to make Lebron's highest score of 130.2 catch Michael Jordan's 154.8.

B) David Robinson and James Harden have 4 appearances on the list. Hakeem Olajuwon, Chris Paul and Nikola Jokic have 2 appearances. None of these guys were ever an All-Star MVP.

C) The highest score for KG, Kobe and Giannis came in seasons when they were not the All-Star MVP.

OT but Westbrook has the 17th greatest peak. Goes to show you how underappreciated his prime has become.

Fair point. I think Westbrook tainted his own image by chasing rebounds and assists though. Then everyone caught on to it after Colin Cowherd had a segment on how Russ was doing it.

Terrible take and video. For instance Magic rightfully won the 1989 MVP. At that point Jordan was still trying to learn how to play team ball. The Pistons basically mocked and laughed at him for not being able to get the ball to open teammates on time. But people who were only looking at stats and not watching games don't know that.

And did this dude really say he will count the all star MVP but not the league or Finals MVP? lol
