This has gotten out of hand. Multiple people suggesting Jokic is receiving accolades and praise because he’s white lately. He’s simply the best NBA player at this point and a lot of nights by A LOT. Is this type of narrative legitimate?

I’m probably gonna get some flack for this but here’s my opinion.

In a sport that is predominately African American, a white guy winning MVPs shouldn’t be garnering responses like this. Sure the people voting on MVP are probably predominately white, but all the years when there wasn’t someone white winning MVP nobody had a problem about it. Now someone who is skilled and deserves to win comes along and there’s race baiting from his peers? I think this is what is wrong with America today. It really is sad.

Edit: I’m assuming the title isn’t some bait and is actually accurate.

Jokic has been the clear cut MVP leader based on both production and record until this recent run by the Bucks, inserting Giannis into the conversation. Race has nothing to do with the current MVP rankings.

Seriously, seriously, seriously — get this clown off television. Stop giving him a meaningful platform. He should not have an outlet for all of his ignorant and nonsensical perspectives and takes. He’s about as inarticulate and ineloquent as they come, he sounds stupid and his points are often even stupider than that. He clearly has a limited understanding of the sport.

There’s so much to get into here as to why he’s not only wrong, but why this is a ridiculously uninformed thing to say — but it seems everyone is almost unanimously agreeing he’s an idiot so I’ll save my time.

I hope Jokic wont win this season, so they don't start the race war in the USA over him.

The way identity politics is engrained in practically everything in American life has always been strange to me. Feels like you can't have a public discourse about anything without race being brought up, no matter how spurious the connection.

The stat padding comment makes no sense. He says that everyone does it - if so, then what's the issue. But everyone knows that stat padding / chasing stats has a negative connotation. That you're doing something in your best interest, not the team's best interest. However, the Nuggets are 25-0 when Jokic gets a triple double. And the games where he's had 10 or less FGA? They are 13-1. So where's the negative there. Why should he not be trying to get a triple double? Why shouldn't he be getting teammates involved more if they win when he does? It's just an idiotic take.

Between this is the fugazi load management crap, the ring chasing, the staying loyal but not winning, its interesting how much people get swept up in a narrative that is designed for no other reason than to piss them off. This is actually something they teach in poli sci classes. Its actually a reverse feedback. The CNNs learned it from hot take sports and the sports shows have learned from the race/class warfare dynamics.
