What has your experience been like as a Black professional athlete in Boston?
There’s multiple experiences: as an athlete, as a basketball player, as a regular civilian, as somebody who’s trying to start a business, as someone who’s trying to do things in the community.
There’s not a lot of room for people of color, Black entrepreneurs, to come in and start a business.
I think that my experience there has been not as fluid as I thought it would be.
What do you mean by that?
Even being an athlete, you would think that you’ve got a certain amount of influence to be able to have experiences, to be able to have some things that doors open a little bit easier. But even with me being who I am, trying to start a business, trying to buy a house, trying to do certain things, you run into some adversity.
Other athletes have spoken about the negative way that fans have treated Black athletes while playing in Boston. Have you experienced any of that?
I have, but I pretty much block it all out. It’s not the whole Celtic fan base, but it is a part of the fan base that exists within the Celtic nation that is problematic. If you have a bad game, they tie it to your personal character.
I definitely think there’s a group or an amount within the Celtic nation that is extremely toxic and does not want to see athletes use their platform, or they just want you to play basketball and entertain and go home. And that’s a problem to me.

He’s the worst. Clearly setting the stage for him to leave via FA. I just hope Brad is smart enough to trade him before then so we don’t lose him for nothing

He’s right. I’m sure there are parts of the fan base that are toxic and racist or problematic . Just like there are parts of every fan base that are toxic or racist or problematic . It’s a sad statement on society.

So does a perfect fanbase out there exist? It seems like a fool's errand, when in theory the actions of literally 1-10 (or whatever small number) of people can influence the outlook of tens of thousands and when mass media options like twitter allow anyone's voice to be heard for free, but hey, it's a fool's errand that's taken on by most of society.

Just because you know a lot of fans don't fit the stereotype, doesn't mean a pocket of those people don't exist.
Boston has a reputation for being a racist city. You can't just say you haven't seen it while discrediting someone who said they have, like Brown.

Can't take away from what he experiences and observes because that is personal to him. I had lived in Boston for a good amount of time when I was younger. Sure there were some racist folks, but it would be difficult for me to say whether it was any worse than other places I've lived

I just said that doesn't mean their isnt a problem. Boston is low key one of my favorite cities. There is def alot of racist history there. But you can litterally say this about any fanbase. ive seen much more racist fans in the south than anything. Or even Maryland or PA. Theres alot of towns in PA and MD where seeing the confederate flag is as normal as seeing an American flag

Yeah thats all im saying as someone who has frequented Boston. I've been to much more racist parts in the east coast that wasn't the south

The NJ, Philly and New England is like Alabama but with better schools and transportation.
Lol, it's not a Celtic fans thing, it's a general Northeast thing that Northerners like to deny because they imagine themselves to be the lesser of two evils, but it's about the same.
The Northeast just refuse to be honest about it but they were never honest about it in the first place lol.
At least the South is honest.

Im pretty sure each and every Fanbase in the NBA has its fair share of extreme fans. Some have a deep devotion to the team, and it may come off negatively or creepy, but they dont mean harm.

Not sure if i missed it but where did he say Boston has more racists than other places? Didn’t seem like he compared it to anything else, just speaking on an issue he sees with the fan base he plays for.

Yet we never hear these type of stories coming out of the likes of LA, Chicago, Miami, New york, etc. Its always the usual suspects.
