The NBA is the worst officiated sport in the entire world.

Post#1 » by Grumpy Heat Fan » Sun May 28, 2023 5:39 pm

Boston has been playing the referees, and the refs have been falling for it. Or is the NBA really WWE like everyone says nowadays? I can't stomach to watch the horrid officiating. Maybe it's gambling and point shaving, or I don't know. Last night had so many atrocious calls against Miami.

Look at this. In crunch time, Smart hooks Duncan's arm and pretends to flail around and then shoves Duncan, and it's Duncan who got called for the foul.

Tatum with his patented flailing around baiting flop fouls

Read on Twitter

Earlier in the series, Smart swings at Caleb Martin, A TEXTBOOK FLAGRANT FOUL EVEN IF YOU MISS AND NO CONTACT..... the refs review it..... AND STILL refs call normal foul. THIS IS A TEXTBOOK FLAGRANT. WHAT THE HELL?

Read on Twitter

Meanwhile, Jimmy goes up for a shot, gets called for an offensive foul and the refs on top of that, go to review if it was flagrant on top of that.

Read on Twitter

In another important play, Jimmy goes up and is fouled by White. The refs call a "block" and out on Boston. White NEVER MAKES CONTACT WITH THE BALL. It should be foul on White, or out on Heat and Boston ball. How the hell is this Miami ball? It is a foul on White or it clearly goes out on Butler. The refs just REFUSE to call a foul, so they call a phantom block and give Miami the ball.

Read on Twitter

Horford blatantly holding Strus keeping him from getting back, no foul

Read on Twitter

Here, Jaylen Brown hooks Caleb Martin and scores. Coach Spo challenges, and after review... refs say challenge successful, but contact is "marginal" and basket still counts. BASKET COUNTS!!!! NO FOUL ON BROWN! Per NBA RULES, "This is illegal contact by the offensive player. Players are not permitted to hook their opponents in any way.”

Read on Twitter

Jaylen Brown literally throws a hand at Martin and hits Caleb Martin in the chest area right in front of the ref... no call. Brown then apologizes to Martin afterwards.

I cannot believe how bad the NBA is. How terribly officiated this sport is. It has to be the most embarrassing league in the entire planet. Not even FIFA is this bad.

There are more calls in basketball than other sports...obviously they play a bigger part of the game.

Just what this board needed the most - another thread to whine about the refs.

They need to implement AI (artificial intelligence) in some kind of way to make these calls more exact

Butler double dribbles and then launches himself forward in an unnatural shooting motion. Gets 3 free throws to go ahead with 3 seconds left.

I don’t want to believe that the NBA is rigged as an organization because I would simply just lose interest in it. Having said that, this is the first year I can remember that I watch games (not just Heat games, I’m talking about for and against other teams as well) and I can literally notice the refs flagrantly controlling the outcome of the game. When they want to they stifle any run, video reviews are useless because they find a way to explain it, they ignore obvious calls. It’s so evident that it’s not even trying to be hidden anymore. Allowing betting may be the worst thing that ever happened to basketball.

NBA is unwatchable between flopping, refs, three point chuckers and crybabies

NHL is a far superior product. I've been watching basketball my entire life and can barely stomach it.

Even as a Heat fan I don't think Jimmy deserved those FT attempts. He got boxed in and had no shot. Why do the refs treat the last five seconds like the first five?

It was a poorly reffed game last night. The offensive foul on Butler was **** gross.

That foul on Duncan Robinson was egregiously bad, even for NBA refs.
And the broadcast team just acted like it was normal.
Was very bizarre. Dude is just standing with his hands up and gets grabbed then shoved, then whistled for a foul

Yeah I didn't get that one either.
Looked like a pretty normal shooting motion to me.
Then they reviewed it for a flagrant and someone on the broadcast team (think it was SVG?) thought it would actually be called a flagrant

How about Struss clubbering Tatum on out-of-bounds play for no good reason.
Butler getting 10 FTs in 4 minutes.
Butler getting 3 FTs at the very end of the game while lunging forward. If this is his natural shooting form, he has the strenght of a 12 year old.
How about Butler catching the ball mid-dribble and then dribbling again before the Horford foul?
How about Adebayo pulling people's hands on every other play under the basket.
How about Adebayo pretty much setting the most moving screens I've ever seen in a single playoff run while barely getting called for it?
You're so horrendously biased. I really wish Tatum would get that type of a call that Butler got to see your reaction.
Good assessment:

Wonder why the guy who started the thread didn't use that one in his initial post?

Tells me the rules are too subjective. Especially going straight up in restricted area contesting shots. Interpretation is inconsistent and application of rules makes the game hard to watch

by gross do you mean the correct call under current NBA rules? You can get mad that he didn't throw it on purpose and that he was doing a normal basketball move, but if you go up for a shot and hit a defender who is straight up and down with an elbow, it's always called offensive foul in NBA.

On the white no call, he rinds down, stops, and jumps straight up. I guess we weren't paying attention to the rule of vertically that was super popular back with the pacers and that tall stuff at center in playoffs.

Wrong.

Horford hits Jimmy in the head at 0:03 and messes him up. Foul on Horford either way.

The Venn diagram of people loudly complaining about officiating and people whose team just lost an important game, is just a giant overlapping circle.

In a fairly called game, Heat win that game by 10+ points. League need that sweet, sweet revenue of an extended series though
