I think of it in two different ways...i know playing for a nationalstae high school championship, etc, we used to sing "we going to the ship.." but as an adult I also say until they get the chip it means nothing. I still think ship is more the correct one though

I don't remember anyone referring to it as "ship". I've heard/seen chip and ring.

I'm jealous of hockey referring to it as "cup"

The NHL crowds chanting "we want the cup" is cool asf too. I wish there was a chant like that in the NBA. What about "We want the chip?"
