Butler is way overrated imo, or at least this "playoff jimmy" nonsense is. Going off a few times(and one or two of those games was a ton of late free throws iirc) this year and a few years ago was impressive, but it's hardly his standard.

something like 4 of his last 5 games he's been downright bad. He doesn't have a 3 pt shot; he's way too passive and teams are now playing for that.

I thought the Tatum vs Jimmy thread awhile back was funny......like, really? Literally Tatum is damn near the perfect player except he gets stripped way too much when driving to hoop. Versus jimmy who is very very flawed- doesn't have great burst, poor 3, inconsistent jumper(even his vaunted mid range is not consistent or repeatable in terms of the stroke)...Tatum is on an entirely different level than Butler.

Jimmy continuing to guarantee games at the end of last series got old as well. Fortunately for him Martin(the real mvp of that series) balled out......

Tatum is the better player, but he's now sitting at home.

Jimmy Butler is a great, great player. But this playoff Jimmy and himmy stuff is out of hand. Miami is always overlooked so no one takes the time to criticize him when he doesn’t have a great game, but if they did it would be fairly often.

Like as legendary as he’s been made out to be since going to Miami, he’s shot under 40% in like a third of his playoff games with them. If a team needs Jimmy to be the best player on the floor for them to win then it’s probably not gonna happen enough for that team to win a championship. Jimmy butler isn’t that guy.

Seriously, if Jimmy was micro analyzed like other top 10 players it wouldn’t be that pretty for the playoff Jimmy narrative. The media just ignores the Heat entirely other than to give him props for his explosions lol

Exactly this. I can give a good example from my own fanbase. Luka's PO production is FAR superior to Butler's, yet even our fans ask "What could Luka do better?" every time he goes 40+15+10 and Dallas loses. That's the kind of scrutiny true superstars get. So his stans should chill a bit on the "Jimmy hate" narrative they're trying to push after his patented 5-20 games.

I believe you're right. I mention this to people I personally know and they seem to be caught up in the hype. I really do like Jimmy B but he needs more help.

The series obviously isn't over but Denver is just flat out a better team from top-to-bottom. The Heat's run through the Bucks. Knicks, and Celtics was super impressive. Butler deserves credit, not scorn.

P.S. Having said that, he played like crap in game 1. I have no doubt he'll turn it around.

This. Miami is incredibly fortunate to be here. They have the most anemic offense of any Finals participant I’ve seen in decades. Butler isn’t a legit #1 scoring option yet he dragged them to the Finals.

Get Jimmy a #1 scoring option this summer.

Caleb carried that game. A nobody. Why can't Butler be the superstar hes supposed to be so role players don't have to carry the load?

Caleb "carried" by making wide open 3s. Meanwhile Jimmy was doubled and roughed up nearly every time he got the ball because hes is the only real creator on offense.

In the 4th he is the one to hit the big shots.

This idea that hes not far away the best offensive player is laughable.

Thank you, you are the only one with a basketball IQ here.

28 pts with clutch threes with the Celtics built a defensive scheme to stop him and great defense and still a bad game? FOH.

Did you not watch game 2 of the Finals? He dropped 30 and the HEAT just stole homecourt advantage heading to Miami

28 points on 28 shots? Game 7 was the caleb martin show.

So? made clutch threes, set the tone early, and showed up big defensively while facing a defensive scheme from the Celtics that let other players score beside him.

Classic RealGM at its best and just looking at the stat sheet.

Heat are going to get waxed but it's only been one finals game... Let Jimmy be.

Maybe Butler knows he's not physically capable of playing 7 great games, so he's sacrificing (playing quiet) most of the games in Denver, and saving his energy for the home games. Of course Miami need to win a game in Denver, but Game 1 was not the game to focus on, because they needed to recover from the Conference Finals and acclimatize too.

Butler has said that there's no such thing as "Playoff Jimmy". He's just playing the best he can and enjoying the playoff competition.

I agree that the media over hypes it and that Butler could be more consistent, but also think he's a better player than you're giving him credit for. Even if his shot isn't falling he does other things to help his team (defense, passing, etc.).

One reason why he's not analyzed like other top players in the NBA is because nobody expected him to be where he is. He came into the league the #30 pick and was thought of as a defensive role player.

He's been on the Miami Heat for four years. During that time they've gone to the NBA finals twice (this year and in 2019-20) and the Eastern Conference finals in 2021-22. In 20-21 they lost in the first round.

I know they haven't won a championship with him, but that's an impressive run, especially for a team nobody expects to be there (8th seed this season).

best player on an 8th seed going to the finals without his 2nd best scorer and 2nd best perimeter defender. Defeating the 1st seed, 5th and 2nd seed(your team). Overstated you say?

Butler is averaging 28 6 and 7 on 58%TS which is a career playoff high still across the board and still his highest ppg average. Not to mention a good 6pts above his regular season numbers. So playoff Jimmy is automatically a real thing.

Not fair to use 3 poor games out of his first 7 supremely stellar games and still several moments of great play in between.

What people don't realize is that he's still clearly hampered by the ankle injury.
A picture has been floating around taken yesterday disolaying his right ankle still displaying swelling.

Giannis got injured round 1, and Bucks understimated the Heat.

He's inconsistent his entire career.

What has he truly done in the league other than having some good games in the playoffs?

BTW, they were the number 1 seed last year. If at all, they should be criticized for finishing 8th this year.
