AD first game at Detroit since the infamous trade

Post#1 » by 70sFan » Sat Jun 3, 2023 9:12 pm

I know most people won't care about it in the middle of the finals, but I finally found the first Dantley game at Detroit after the infamous trade. It was clear that Dantley took it personal and he played really well throughout of the first half (my version misses the whole 4th quarter):

I hope that at least some of you will enjoy it as much as I do :D

I last remember Dantley from getting completely outcoached by Jerry Sloan in the 2010 playoffs. Similar to the Spo/Mazz situation in the ECF this year, some series the coaching mismatch really stands out.

I was at this game. I grew up a Piston fan with Dantley as my favorite player ever, and the trade broke my 8-year-old heart to the point I no longer supported the Pistons.

Thanks for the upload!

I was like “Davis doesn’t have beef with Detroit, right?” Then I realised it must be Andre Drummond…

No problem, I am glad I bring up memories with that video. I also understad why you were a Dantley fan, he's such a joy to watch.

surprised he was great scorer with that high of a dribble, seems like he'd get pickpocketed a lot more driving but probably had great hands

It was a trap for agressive defenders, Dantley did it on purpose to make defenders reach for steals. They always failed miserably.

If I remember correctly, Dantley always did his damage close to the basket among the tall players. No one stopped him from scoring, and when the Pistons traded him to the Mavs, it was believed that Thomas was behind that deal. Supposedly, Thomas wanted his friend Mark Aguirre on his team and Dantley off. Probably a true story, but in my opinion it opened up the Piston's offense. Dantley clogged the lane while Aguirre could shoot with more range. Again, I'm going off of my memory so I could be wrong.
