Athletically: MVP Rose V MVP Westbrook

Post#1 » by mdonnelly1989 » Mon Jul 24, 2023 12:34 am

Also answer these questions....

How close on end to end speed?

Who jumped higher and how close?

Who was had quicker lateral ability?

Strength?

Body movement...

Explosiveness both the first step and in terms of dunking explosiveness.

I went with Rose but Westbrook was just a lot stronger so he seemed more imposing. He also had the athleticism a lot longer so it’s easier to think back on. Very close though.

I'm curious the overall opinion here...i'm bias and will always choose Rose but I understand others that choose Westbrook so i'm more just wanting to see the opinions now

Westbrook was stronger and probably faster end to end, but Rose was more athletic. He had better body control, he could make plays in the air, like Jordan.

Still to this day I have never seen someone else who moved like prime DRose. The amount of torque and change of direction speed was almost alien-like. It's a shame he got injured because I can only imagine the amount of highlights we got robbed of.

Rose was faster, Westbrook was overall more athletic. There is nothing I can't imagine prime Westbrook doing athletically.

Westbrook is obviously stronger and probably a little faster going full speed. But Derrick Rose had Iversonesque fluidity and ability to change direction in addition to being able to jump out of the gym. I gotta go with D-Rose, amazing athlete but also an amazingly rare breed of athlete.

Westbrook faster/stronger, D-Rose better balance and body control.

This is obviously Westbrook. Ask yourself this: would they have been close as players if Westbrook had Rose's bball IQ? No, Westbrook might have been the GOAT PG if that was the case.

I have Westbrook by a clear distance. No slight on Rose amazingly explosive but Westbrook to me is the most transferable athlete of all time.

He’s not just explosive but bigger/longer, he’s basically a perfect build for any sport. Both dealt with injuries but guys Westbrook is above all else.

Massive feet, 6”3 solid frame with wide shoulders, great running gait, incredible motor (that is not something you can just pick up) ideal for swimming, athletics, any fighting discipline and ball sports. Dude would walk into any environment that deals with this and thrive I do think he’s the superior athletic specimen.

… yeah he clears no diff. Respect to Rose but Westbrook is the full package. Lol that first clip is post 30 at the Lakers ffs. Being bigger he covers more ground easily too.

Isn’t that wrong? Rose legitimately lost his career due to lack of body control.

There are many contributing factors. Poor landing mechanics being one of them.

Maybe if he had Westbrook's strength, his knees wouldn't have taken as much of a toll over the years.

Hmm, Rose might not have had the IQ you think he did? Wasn't a particularly smart player iirc, at least didn't have the chance to get there since his injury came so soon in his career. I remember him using his athleticism to do almost all that he did.

I didn't say Rose was particularly smart. Westbrook is by far the stupidest star player (basketball wise, seems like a smart guy off the court) I've ever witnessed though, so there's a clear difference.

Rose wasn't brilliant, but I thought he did a good job of keeping things pretty simple, playing to his strengths, and not making a bunch of idiotic turnovers or forcing awful shots. I actually like his decision making for a guy that wasn't a basketball savant. I think it's why he adapted pretty well to different roles and styles as he aged.
