Assuming they can resign OG (incumbent team always has the advantage). You have an All-NBA defender who is has DPOY potential and is one of the best (if not the best) 3&D guys around.

Herro is good, but when you talk about who slots nicely with Scoot and Sharpe, it's very clearly OG.

Agreed. While I can imagine making a Herro>OG in a vacuum (Herro is a way better self-creator, playmaker, scorer), I can't see the case on Portland's roster. They're drowning in scoring guards with questionable defense. Unless Portland wants to build the next doomed Dame/CJ build, they should be hungry to add a bigger boi to their core.

The Miami Heat scout who gave this quote is getting a raise...lol

Lol, wouldn't be realgm if fans weren't taking homer social media posts by homer team employees as some kind of objectively sourced point for their side. This one seems no more relevant than like trump saying 'I've been hearing a lot of people, i mean a LOT, saying they think I was doing a better job than ol' comatose Joe.'

Please don't derail sports threads with random politics. Thx. -b

It might even be about Herro vs OG. Portland most likely likes Dick over Herro even before we bring OG in the mix.

lol, last trade deadline there was chatter of OG fetching 2-3 firsts. Do we have any evidence Herro can fetch one first in an increasingly austere NBA?

The only thing that scares me about OG is his next contract. No way he'll make less than Grant right?

The biggest obstacle to this whole "Tyler Herro is actually a really valuable trade asset guys!" narrative that the Miami media machine and their fans have spent the last 2-months spinning, is that they're acting like we all didn't just literally see what Jordan Poole got traded for...

Cronin may very well like dick but anyone that chooses dick over a proven 6MOY and a guy who’s averaged over 20 multiple times in his short career is hilarious. We’ve seen nothing from dick yet.

I think OG's immediate flip value is also clearly higher. Herro is probably a better player than his trade value because of the combo of contract+ skillset/limitations + the do-we-really-really-know-what-we're-getting factor, while OG's value is higher because he could slot in with any decent team and elevate them. Even though he's a rental who's going to get paid.

Dame to Raps suddenly getting all the buzz while the Heat may be in backtracking/facesaving mode. This tweet is based on comments from Heat reporter Ethan Skolnick and Windhorst said the same a few days ago about the Heat not being desperate for Dame.

So basically Dame will be traded to the Heat soon haha.

Chatter that never translated into him actually being worth that, not saying he isn't but just how there isn't real evidence about Herro, there isn't real evidence with OG.

I'm sure there's a number of teams that would give a first or two for Herro, it just hasn't happened yet because there's been no traction with Portland wanting a deal.

Ethan is clueless when it comes to the Heat, his whole network just throw stuff at the wall and hope something sticks.

Over 1/3 of the NBA teams are currently slated to have enough cap space to sign at least one max salary player next offseason. OG will be choosing his destination among suitors as a free agent.

Might also be relevant that Herro makes $25m more than Dick, and that he plays the same position and has the same role as a guy POR already has (A Simons). Also the choice wouldn't be 'Dick or Herro,' obviously a bigger trade package involved in both.

We're on thread #4 of this, doesn't do any of us any good to ignore basic points in it.

Nope... that would be 2 near max contract forwards that are not all-star caliber players and think they deserve more of an offensive role than their games warrant.

If Portland wants a 3 and D guy on an expiring contract we’ll send you a Caleb Martin. Overall he’s not the defender OG is (I think his defense is being overrated, he will not be in the race for DPOY) but he is a far better shooter and was the main difference maker in us making the finals last year as he cooked the Celtics in the ECF. Hell also he cheaper to retain and Portland won’t be paying $70M+ for a 3 and 4 that will never be all stars.

Caleb’s playoff run from last season is better than any we’ve seen from OG.

Riley is just bargain bin shopping. He'll take Dame if he can get him at a discount but won't pay the going rate. He's smart and won't overpay. His fanbase will say 'we are waiting for Embid and Gianis'. But the problem is, that when that time comes, he still will be smart and won't want to overpay and so he will get outbid.

Dick is a guard.

Yes please get destroyer of worlds Caleb Martin out of the East! I still have nightmares about the dude.
