[Shams] NBA will return to East vs. West All-Star Game Format

The NBA is considering moving back to the East vs. West format for this year's All-Star Game after having captains select teams over the past several years.
"We're looking at some potential changes in format in Indianapolis this year," Adam Silver said about the 2024 All-Star Game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. "Maybe a return to something more traditional in terms of how the teams are presented. We went to sort of this captain and draft notion, but clearly historically it was East vs. West. So that's maybe something we are looking at."
Silver believes the volume of events and activities throughout All-Star weekend has contributed to the players lacking the energy for the actual game on Sunday.
"The All-Star Weekend is quite a spectacle," Silver said. "I'm always sort of laughing because before the game even starts on Sunday afternoon, people are saying, 'This is the best ever!' And I'm like, 'We'll, we've got this game.' I'll take some fault for that because when you're there this year in Indianapolis, beginning essentially Thursday night and then through Sunday, I think it's an opportunity for this whole global basketball community to come together. Great legends of the game. Not just the All-Stars, but lots of players. I don't know how it works in other sports, but we have dozens and dozens of players in the league who choose to come to All Star Weekend for the activities for various events who aren't even All-Stars. So I think we've lost sight a bit that it's about the game at the end of the day."
Silver also downplayed the idea of Team USA vs. The World.

Last time I watch the all-star game was in 2014....To be fair,the all-star game is terrible in every sports

I would definitely prefer this. The whole Team LeBron vs Team whoever has been lame as hell. Maybe they'd care to actually play if it wasnt just two dudes picking their buddies to play with them. Probably not though. All star game has been boring for awhile

In the words of Lebron James “It’s about damn time!” Now make the winner get home court in the finals and I guarantee you you’ll get at least 5 guys on each team that will actually try.

Horrible idea....I mean,the Baseball did this during 14 years(2003 to 2016) and it changed nothing!

Make the ASG in the offseason, post-Finals. Few people are gonna play hard if its midseason.. and unlike ASGs in the past, like the 90s and before - and this applies to all sports - no one needs the exposure anymore. In the 90s, before League Pass and MLB.tv and all those things where we could watch any game, any player, at any time, you had a very limited exposure to some of the great players of the game. If you wanted to watch them on TV, it was when they came to town against your team. So the ASG was a spectacle where you could see all those players at once. Now, we're oversaturated and can watch anything, so the ASG itself isn't as big a deal
I dont think anyone's going to really care until you make it more interesting, and the regular game isn't that. Make it an ASG, but with Rock'n'Jock basketball rules (for those who are too young, google it. Rock n Jock basketball was must-see back in the day). Make it fun, make it mean nothing, and make it more interesting than a regular game. That's how I'd fix it.. not this minor tweak BS that isnt gonna do a damn thing

They should just establish a rotation that way it doesn’t get stale. One year east vs west, next year world vs USA/North America, the next team captains. Rinse and repeat.
