I'm a little disappointed to see Obi Toppin winning the starting spot over Jarace Walker.

I'm high on the Pacers this year, but Tyrese Haliburton and Obi Toppin- as fun as it will be on offense sometimes- is going to be a big goofy defensive target for teams to attack night in and night out. Obi is really fun with his hustle, hops, and skill... but on defense the man is so stiff hipped and the rest of his body looks like water balloons on defense. He's one of the most helpless frontcourt defenders in the league, despite giving it his all out there.

I think it makes the team more of a gimmicky offensive fun team, and less of a solid 2-way squad that I thought Bruce Brown and Jarace Walker could turn them into next to Myles Turner.

Jarace as a rookie is not helping any team to contend. He still should get plenty of minutes as a backup. Indiana will not keep Obi on the floor for too many minutes when facing great defensive teams.

I think he tops out as John Collins tier..except Collins is probably an average frontcourt defender.

I don't get why it had to be one or the other. If Barrett can play SF with his bricklaying and crappy defense then Toppin should have seen more playing time there too. Backup PF/SF minutes seems to be what Toppin deserves right now.

He was a Knicks youngster. Remember that lakers and Knicks rookies and youngsters are all future hall of famers!!

I think Obi will fit in well with the Pacers...don't really care about social media posts.

Obi looks like he's got a cardboard chest. (As my dad used to say about me when I was 14). Too easy to run through right now. Shrinks from contact. I'd have that dude on the bench press three times per week. Still he's room to grow and seems willing. I see him as being at least a good back up especially with TY dropin' him dunks.
Jarace, man that dude has no shot and doesn't seem to know it. Great that he can get them at will, but it looks rubbery, and loose. I'd have him try to get better extension on his release. Might firm that that up a bit. He's going to be really good defender though. Very scrappy. A 3/4 it looks like, but again he needs to shoot a lot better for that. So young though. Hoping he'll end up beating out Obi by next year. If they both improve, we'll be a tough out.
Jalen Smith btw looks a lot better this season. Not such a stick anymore, and that's huge for him and his confidence.

If he decides to play some defense he could make those shots turn into actual regret but as long as he is a traffic cone low effort defender and not much of a rebounder he is going to struggle for minutes.

Andray Blatche had sort of a similar profile. When you give no effort at the defensive end as a big no one cares if you can score points

I don't blame him for being salty. He was the 8th pick (I think?) but never got the same opportunity as other guys drafted in that range.

The part I never understood is that this was obvious from the beginning. Randle was already there and Thibs is notorious for having both a tight leash for rookies and no patience for poor defenders. That pick never made sense and there were so many other guys there that would have been better fits (ignoring Haliburton they could have picked Avdija, Vassell or even Cole Anthony).

Thibs has had no problem feeding other young players minutes. Obi just couldn't play next to Julius and Julius exploded the same year we drafted Obi.
