Safe to say, Chet "Hologram" Holgrem > Paolo Banchero
Especially with how the NBA is changing over the years.
Advantages Chet over Paolo:
- Can scale well offensively with ball-dominamt teammates
- Can actually shoot 3s at high volume
- Legit rim-protector
Paolo:
- can better create his own offense and also for others? But he needs the ball in his hands to have impact on the game.
Paolo is still going to a decent or even great player, but Chet looks "generational", especially if he manages to fill up his frame. Magic done goofed.

Chet can be a top 20 player in the league even if he is scoring 15 ppg. Ridiculous to pass up on him with that potential as a rim protector and floor spacer at the 5.

Too early by far. Trae was the very clear consensus second best player of the 2018 draft for the first 3 years minimum but now pretty much everyone would say it is SGA and some would have Trae behind guys like JJJ, Bridges, Brunson. Chet has played 4 games to mixed, but very promising results.

Chet is a twig atm and I wouldn’t put money on him staying injury free with that frame

Saying safe to say after 3 games would be grounds for non voluntary admission to the local mental health ward in the perfect world.

No I wouldnt say thats safe to say at all. We wont know for a few years can Chet actually stay healthy for most of the season. On every play he looks like he's about to snap his legs. Even today I'd pick Paolo over Chet.

Yeah... 3 games so far and we already have these spicy takes?
Especially since Paolo is still injured.

Why do non thunder fans always create these types of threads?

OP’s name is Westgoat. That’s not a Westbrook fan who used to play for OKC?

I haven't watched much Banchero's game, is he similar to Tobias Harris?

Re: Safe to say, Chet Holgrem > Paolo Banchero
I have seen nothing through 4 games that makes me think Chet is remotely the player that Paolo is...he has flashes but he also can't guard anyone and is super weak on offense, anytime anyone bodies him on the defensive side he folds (re-watch the Bulls or Nuggets games if you haven't seen that).
Through their first 4 games:
Chet - 15.0 / 6.3 / 2.0 and 2.8 blocks
Paolo - 22.8 / 7.5 / 3.0 and 2.0 blocks

I mean Chet has shown he's serviceable at the 5. Outside of that, I give the note to Paolo

Magic fans would be more concerned if Jabari Smith ends up balling out, Chet not so much. Don’t think he was going to be considered based on Orlando’s existing personnel and his frame. Chet is a beast but he’s literally already missed a year and with his frame, could have the potential for more.

The world is full of people who will say 10 stupid things that will turn out to be false with the hopes that 1 of them will come true and they can consider themselves some kind of prophet.

Chet is unique for sure, but I’m concerned with his durability.
Paulo is a beast and will continue to evolve.

I'd say he's a rich man's version of Tobias, but with improved ballhandling, passing and playmaking.
But, all of this, comparing a 21-year old with a prime Tobias. So Banchero can (and will) improve on what he is right now.
I like Banchero and I would definitely pick him over Chet. The issue with Chet is durability.
Banchero's archetype (a big, versatile wing who can serve as a team's primary scorer) is very easy to identify as a success mold in the NBA's history. Many champions and contenders had a similar player like him as their best player.
The issue with Banchero is how much better he can get, and if, over time, he could be good enough to be the best player on a contender, or if he would need a better player alongside him. That I still don't know, need to see his development curve, it's too early to tell.

I love Chet, but come on. Let the guys play for a few seasons, then hash it out if you want to. How about recognizing that both are potentially great players and leaving it at that?

One important thing is rookies that who skipped their original rookie season because of injury usually have a great rookie season. They know the NBA routine and have also been training for a whole season. He is not a real rookie imo.

Re: Safe to say, Chet Holgrem > Paolo Banchero
It's safe to say after one guy has played an entire season and the other guy has played a few games in his entire career?
Not to mention their roles are completely different and one plays on a team with an established superstar and young, upcoming guys while the other is essentially tasked with carrying the team himself
