Is Chet Holmgren already a future face of the league?

Post#1 » by Godymas » Sat Nov 4, 2023 3:04 pm

In his second NBA game ever, Chet almost had a triple double. He was just 3 blocks short. That’s right, not assists, rebounds or points, blocks.

From day 1 he’s looked like a veteran on both ends of the floor. The game feel, the IQ, it’s already there. Combine it with 7 feet of height with a 7 foot 6 wingspan.

Last night in the tournament he was nothing short of electric, 24 points on 9 FGA.

Chet is looking like a complete player, the advanced stats are already going off the charts. 78% TS, 6.4 BPM. Once again, this is his first 6 NBA games EVER. None of this looks like luck or a hot streak, maybe the TS drops a
little but the game sense shows, this may have been the most under the radar all time great selection.

I'm most surprised by 'last night in the tournament" line.

Chet looks great, he'd be the future if Wemby disappears.

It’s Wemby.

And no one else.

From Jordan to Kobe to LeBron to Wemby.

Already confirmed.

It seems like a lot of the legends are embracing both him and Wemby as guys that could run the league in the future.

Chet has already fit in really well offensively and shown a great 3pt stroke. On defense he competes hard, blocks shots, and rebounds well. We just need to pray for health.

Just 3 blocks short of a triple double is a lot of blocks short.

I don't know about future face of the league, but he's living up to his billing so far as a defensive stud. That young Thunder core is tough, and they've got plenty of ammo when it's time for them to make the next leap.

A face? Sure. THE face? Absolutely not.

And his TS will drop more than "a little;" there is a near-zero percent chance he posts 70%+ this year. Joker is the only one to do that on any kind of consequential volume to date. He definitely isnt going to continue shooting 56%+ from 3, and it is quite unlikely he will continue shooting 66%+ inside the arc. Or 60% from 10-15 feet.

So we need to wait and see a lot on what he becomes. Certainly starting strong, though.

Being from MN, I’ve watched Chet for a long time. His toughness, even with that body, is such an important ingredient why he’ll be a star.

Chet will be a a numerous time all-star if he stays healthy, no doubt. His biggest problem is he’s going to be compared to Wemby. Just like the U19 tournament a few years ago when Chet led the US to gold but Wemby, two years younger, outplayed him.

Wemby fans shouldn’t be so quick to dismiss Chet as a real rival. The 3 pt shot is the ultimate equalizer, and Chet’s shot looks pure. There’s a real chance he’s just the better offensive player now and going forward.

Doesn’t have the prrsonality or the charisma to be a star. He is the white version of Tim Duncan when it comes to Charisma. He’s just not marketable enough. Definitely not with that atrocity growing on his face that some people might refer to as a beard.

I guess I didn't notice you wrote "a future face" and thought you wrote "the future face". Carry on.

EDIT: did you change the title?

Great young player who should only get better. His willingness to get physical despite his weight is a good sign. Those injury concerns though... Going to have to do aot to shed them. Everyone is healthy at the start of the year, but when the grind starts, what happens?

Just won't know until it does...

Draymond's inadvertent elbow thinks so.

On a serious note so the op is saying not only has Chet already surpassed SGA as the face of the OKC Thunder already but now he's ahead of him as the face of the League. Chet is an excellent player but no, he doesn't even have that mantle on his own team quite yet.

And I'm not even a big SGA guy.

He is already one of my favorite players. He should be careful though, at least the next two years, until his body get stronger. Less hustle plays for now, he is not so strong yet to endure.
