Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is scared to live in his own house!

It's a strange story and a little sad and scary for my guy Shai, one of my favorite players to watch.
So it seems SGA purchased a mansion near Toronto and moved in last May. But unbeknownst to him, it used to belong to this crypto scam artist, whose victims still regularly come to the house looking for revenge. In fact, when the scam artist still lived there, he was actually kidnapped, beaten and tortured for three days (although he was abducted in downtown Toronto, not from the house), and eventually moved out of the house for his own safety. This is what the dude looked like when the kidnappers were through with him:

Two days after SGA moved in, one of these victims showed up looking for the crypto dude and wouldn't leave when he was told the dude didn't live there anymore. When SGA's partner called the police, she was told that there were several reports about threats to the property, including a threat to burn the house down. So SGA and his partner moved out the next day and are now suing to nullify the sale on the basis that the threats and danger were concealed from them.

Same here.
But can’t he use his Spanx money to hire security to splash vinegar or maple syrup on the crypto poors?

This is the problem when people are left with only violence as a means of retribution against those who have wronged them / profited on their suffering. I can't imagine many people have any sympathy for the crypto conmen that owned the place before SGA, and I bet I'm not the only person that for a moment felt a tinge of pleasant surprise that one of theses scammers is seeing some real consequences...but like violence tends to do, it's now flowing over to affect further innocents.

This sucks for SGA, HOWEVER:
(A) He’s got enough loot to buy another house in any corner of the world he chooses.
(B) yes; his home is Canada. However, he’s not there year round ( his partner probably is)
(C): should have enough money to literally build a security gate around the premises of the address
AND
(D) have enough money to afford 24/7 patrol for the rest of his and his children’s children’s’ existence.
I feel bad for Shai, but he’ll be fine.

Wait, how did I never hear about this story to begin with?

How do you not research who owned the house before you?

Why would you?
I mean, I guess its a bit different for houses worth over a million, so fair enough there I guess, but I'd imagine its rarely a scenario where people need to worry about something like this.
I don't need to know Bob, who worked at Lowes owned the house before me, so long as it was taken care of an such, I wouldn't think too much about it. Plus, I don't know how it is in Canada, but in the US aren't they legally required to tell you if someone died or something? So some of that stuff is already taken care of to a degree.

Wait you just move into a house with no research?

That isn't what I said. I said I don't need to know a ton of information about previous owners, because that would very rarely play a factor.
Making sure the house had been taken care of and is in good shape? That is what matters. What job they had would be irrelevant.
EDIT: Also, the real estate agent probably told them "a crypto kid is selling it" or something along those lines. Why would anyone go into a google hunt about the crypto kid?

I'm not arguing research is bad, I'm arguing I don't think most people do full on background checks on everyone who has owned a house before them.
But honestly, the buyers shouldn't have to do that anyway, that should be the real estate agents job...of course, I can understand why they would hide that information, but that also opens them up to lawsuits, which it sounds like is happening.

I was wondering if this was a job for Sam and Dean Winchester or Scooby Doo & the gang.
Turns out it's Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law.

If I was making that kind of money I would just build my own house. Especially if I plan on living there in the off-season.

The house was rented, it was a real estate company that owned the hosue. So he would have no idea who actaully was living in the house at that time. The cypto dude wasn't the one selling the house, he was renting it for 45k a month. The house was empty and the crypto kid long gone by the time SGA got the house.
