Do the grizzlies make the playoffs?

I haven’t loved the moves the grizzlies have made over the years.

They traded Allen, Melton, Jones and Valanciunas
They drafted Williams then let go of Anderson and Brooks.

I know they are missing some guys but he feel like their roster doesn’t work as well.

Do you see them getting far?

I presicted them to finish 11th.
Losing morant for 25 games, Adams for the season, clarke for at least the first 2 months of the season and tyus Jones is just too much.

Crazy how they went from a championship contender on the rise to a team that will probably lose in the play-in as their best case scenario.

I hope, that they make an attack for the playoff spots at the very least.
I have Ja Morant in my Keeper league and drafted him in round 9 or so, i need to get that ROI

They will surge up the standings when they get their players back. Will it be enough to secure a playoff spot, I'm not sure but clearly the Grizzlies we're seeing now is a weakened and depleted team.

Is is crazy, would happen to many teams if they lost their superstar and their most important starting role player.

There's still 11 games still Morant comes back. They could very easily be 5-20 when he's back. With such a competitive West, i think that gap might be too much to make up. Even when Morant comes back, he's going to need a little while to get back to game shape. They will still be missing their starting center for the whole season. I'm not sure when Marcus Smart is back.

This season might just be a write off

it's crazy if you ignore all context. Looking at their injuries/suspensions it makes complete sense.

Morant makes them much better, but not better enough to get into the playoff mix. Everyone including myself was clowning Brooks last year but there may be something to his style of play with that team.

Morant missed a lot of games last season and the team still played well in his absence. See how Houston playing well, maybe Brook was the major factor to last season's success.

In all seriousness, this season was ruined when we found out S Adams needed season ending surgery…..like two days before the opener. That, compounded by the fact Clark is still out and Ja is suspended and it’s a mess

This is a bit of an understatement.
The Grizzlies are missing:
- Their starting point guard and best player. (Ja)
- Their replacement for him (Marcus Smart) and recent DPOY.
- Their starting center (Adams).
- Their highest minute big off the bench (Brandon Clarke).
- Their replacement starting center (Xavier)
- Their back up shooting guard.

7 players are out. 3 of them starters, one of them their best player. No team in the NBA would survive this. This is like taking Tatum, Jrue, Kristaps, and Horford off Boston (considered the most stacked roster in the league), or Jokic, A.Gordon, and KCP off Denver and saying the Nuggets or Celtics "roster doesn't work as well".

A healthy Grizzlies has won over 50 games and been the 2 seed the last 2 years. They don't have to prove anything in an injury decimated year. They do need to address their froncourt and wing depth moving forward though. None of the wings they drafted (Ziare, Roddy, Vincent Williams, GG Jackson) have turned into a starter so far, and their bigs (Adams, Clarke) have serious injury red flags.

Morant is the only guy out. Half their rotation and most of their starting lineup is hurt.

Nope. They lost their best player (Brooks) so I doubt it.

It shouldn’t be a surprise. As a fan with no medical info. I speculated that Adams might be cooked as far back as early-mid April given how his supposed recovery timelines were so far off. Gigantic mountain of a human being with an off track recovery. Of course, I have some “experience” smelling out that sort of thing as a Bulls fan (hey Lonzo!).

They were 20-16 without him last year if I counted right, and Ja didn’t play in 7 of the losses.

I give a nod to the OP. Ja’s loss is obvious, Adams/Clarke definitely hurts, but I think the slow bleeding and loss of all those high quality role players over time has only exacerbated the situation with the absences.

All I need is for Ja to lower their lottery odds behind ours.

We previously had all that depth OP mentioned which helped a ton in the regular season, but come playoffs when you shortened your rotation we were not doing as well. So they tried to consolidate some of the depth while taking some flyers on some intriguing young guys. Unfortunately a lot of the young guys aren't doing well and we have had so many injuries that the lack of depth is severely impacting us. Our starting unit has a guy we just signed in Biz and a two-way player. Ja, Smart, Kennard, and Tillman coming back will be a big boost for us, but Clarke and Adams being out for the year really caps our ceiling. We might be able to sneak into the playoffs, but it'll be tough. I think we will compete for a play-in spot, but unless someone else gets hit by injuries even that will take work.

It sucks that the draft is so weak this year. A one year lost season and reload with a high draft pick would have been a nice option to have if things continue on like this.

EDIT: Our depth chart currently

PG: Ja (susp), Rose, Gilly (2-way)
SG: Bane, Kennard (inj), Konchar
SF: Smart (inj), Santi, Ziaire, Vince (2-way)
PF: JJJ, Clarke (inj), Roddy, LaRavia (inj), Lofton
C: Adams (inj), Tillman (inj), Biz

Down right now 3 starters, 5 of our top 7-8, and 6 of our top 9. Kennard (6th) and Tillman (9th) are the only two that may come back in the immediate future. I doubt we even have the players to attempt to make up ground in the standings until mid December.

I doubt it.
Ja coming back will help, but losing Tyus Jones, Dillon Brooks and Steven Adams will be tough to overcome.
Plus, some teams that did not make the playoffs last year (Dallas, Houston) are in the hunt this year.
