Richard Jefferson 'they are playing Sochan over Jones because they'd be winning too many games with Tre'

The only guy in the media with the balls to call the Spurs out for this Sochan charade.
Just stop this nonsense Pop.
You'll get a good pick actually playing hard and playing the right guys because your team isn't good enough.
Stop treating the fans, myself for example who has followed the Spurs for 31 years now, like fools.
Fix the lineup, get some proper development from your best two players and grow some positive habits.

He is throwing games and wanting everyone to believe the ‘Sochan experiement’ is serious.
It’s not rocket science.
I reckon even you could have won a ring with Duncan, Parker and Ginobili…

Sarr.
New Duncan/Robinson, just a lot more French.
More a joke to be clear. I like the highlights I’ve seen from Sarr and would like to have him on my team (Bulls), but he’s no DRob/Timmy as a prospect.

LeBrons son?
Any other decent prospect they have contract control over for more than half a decade?

You can get Bronny with the 10th pick they would naturally get by just letting the cards fall where they may.

It's pretty clear theyre purposely tanking

I'll say it liek this again, perhaps sochan can't run an nba offense. Does that mean you shouldn't play him at point guard. Many people would say no, you shouldn't. Running him at point guard has shown he's not a good point guard.
But perhaps you should play him at point guard because he can't run an nba offence. Maybe the experiment was never about him being good at running an nba offence. Maybe its not a failed experiment. It was never about those terms.

Maybe it's not even about tanking or not tanking. Maybe that's not the purpose of what they're doing here. It wouldn't surprise me if it had little or nothing to do with tanking.

We develop everyone, not just Wemby.
RJ is hardly the go-to for insight. Tre started last season, too, and he plays like a couple of minutes less than Sochan this season. Plenty of minutes with Wemby as well. What are his points for saying Tre would result in too many wins?
Counter points:
I think a few more threads will convince everyone that it's all a big ruse rather than plain old growing pains of the youngest team in the league, one of the toughest SOS, missing our second best player for half our games, and yes trying some things. Development. It takes time. We fought well tonight.

He’s not a point guard though and he never will be in this league. It’s like handing the reigns to PJ Tucker and saying “he’ll learn”. Point guard is not a position you can just learn how to play. He can’t run a pick and roll, he can’t beat anyone off the dribble and he constantly makes poor decisions.
The team clearly runs better with Tre on out there running the show. Sochan needs reps in his future role, which will ultimately be a 3/4 hustle type of guy.
I see zero upside in this experiment.

Unpopular opinion but I think it has a lot with pops thinking he's the smartest guy in the room when he's not and smelling his own farts thinking he can make it work. Similar to belicheck in new England post Brady. Best thing for pops would be to bow out somewhat gracefully while he still can and call it a career

It's ok that you don't. The collective here decided for it. It's not about turning Sochan into a PG but turning him into a better more versatile version of himself. Keldon was put in this role, too, of bringing up the ball more and initiating the O, and he sucked at first and I loathed it. Part of it was that the ball always ended up as a shot when it got to his hands and so he had to learn to see plays developing and team mates open. When you initiate the O, you get used to the ball leaving your hands. He also had poor handles, picked up his dribble too soon, and couldn't finish well at the rim. And you know who had these same issues? Tre. Yes, the true PG struggled at the NBA level in these aspects. Now Sochan's strengths last season were D and passing. Now he's learning to do it with the ball rather than off more, and he's working on handles, and guarding the best opponents, something Keldon can't do, and frankly you can't teach height with Tre. He got exploited badly on D last season, for those who watched. Like I said, it's about development. Not just Wemby's, and for the record, he is on board with it. It just takes time.

at where the spurs are now they can prolly get anyone they want w/o tanking
if jefferson is implying tanking then there has to be a target
jefferson is a wise-cracker. this smacks of a typical insouciant jefferson remark, "because they're winning too many games",
is a smart-@ss version of a laughable "they are tanking"
sounds like an experiment pops wants to take NOW before it really matters . like he's just trying sh***. people are taking this like this season matters for the spurs. this team gets blow'd out by 40 if wemby doesn't get 20/10/3 - they really sukkk

I miss when noone watched the Spurs
Sochan obviously isn't the long term solution, but theyre destroying the kid after 15 odd games at PG. I agree that he needs to iron out all the kinks out of his system.

said it before the season, they don't care about this season. They could try to get in the play-in but it's not their goal. Finding out if Sochan can be a point forward is more important than winning a few more games with Jones. There's a surplus of guards available and they can be found anytime whether in house, trade or through the draft. Finding a point forward is like striking gold. If "tanking" lands them another french dude in Sarr than great. And if they need to find a PG because Sochan isn't working out it'll be easy.

I bought the league pass to see Victor play in the NBA, not the NCAA.
If Sochan needs to learn how to play basketball, there's training or the G-League for that...

The spurs tank this season to land Sarr to pair w/ Wemby and form the Eiffel Towers.
