Giannis/Lillard/Lopez yesterday night (101 pts) was one for the ages, history-wise (update: Embiid/Maxey/Harris too)

Update: see post #17

It's extremely rare when a trio of teammates score THAT many points in the same game. They scored 101 points together!

In case you didn't see it, here's the boxscore.

Watch on YouTube

- Giannis: 31/9/3, 11/19 FG
- Lillard: 31/6/10, 11/18 FG
- Lopez: 39/6/1, 14/17 FG
- As a sidenote, Washington had 4 players scoring 20+ (Poole, Kuzma, Jones, Kispert), totaling 90 points

So I decided to do a little research and see where that fit in the NBA's history.

That was 5th highest scoring output ever by a trio of teammates, when everyone scored at least 30 (please note the criteria).

What were the 4 others?

1. 123 points - December 13, 1983: Detroit at Denver (boxscore)
- Isiah Thomas, 47 points (also 17 assists!)
- John Long, 41 points
- Kelly Tripucka, 37 points
- This was the infamous highest scoring game in NBA history (186 x 184)
- It went to 3 overtimes
- Kelly Tripucka was no slouch; he was an All-Star that year, averaging 21/4/3; averaged 26/5/4 the season before
- From Denver's side, Kiki Vandeweghe had a 51/9/8 game, along with Alex English with 47/12/7

2. 109 points - March 1, 2019: Chicago at Atlanta (boxscore)
- Zach LaVine, 47/9/9
- Otto Porter, 31/10
- Lauri Markkanen, 31/17
- Game went into 4 OTs
- For Atlanta, Trae Young had 49/8/16

3. 105 points - January 26, 1979: Washington at Kansas City (boxscore)
- Otis Birdsong, 39/5/10
- Phil Ford, 33/13, 14/18 FG
- Scott Wedman, 33 points, 14/17 FG (all Kansas City Chiefs players)
- Birdsong (2nd overall pick in the 1977 draft) was an All-Star that season (his 2nd year), with 22/4/3 averages; 4x All-Star for his career
- Ford (2nd overall pick in the 1978 draft) was the ROY and All-NBA 2nd team that season, averaging 16/2/9
- Wedman was an All-Star the following season; later on went to win 2 titles with the Bird-led Celtics as a bench player
- Washington went on to the NBA Finals that season, losing to Seattle (and they were NBA champions the season before!)
- Highest scoring output by a trio (at least 30 points by each player) if you don't count overtimes

4. 103 points - March 2, 1962: New York at Philadelphia (boxscore)
- This is the famous game where Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points
- Richie Guerin, 39/8/6
- Willie Nauls, 31/7/2
- Cleveland Buckner, 33/8 (all Knicks players)
- Both Guerin (29/6/7) and Nauls (25/12/3) were All-Stars that season
- Buckner, however, played only 2 seasons in the NBA (in his 2nd one, only 6 games) and had 6 ppg in his 1st season

All in all

* There have been 18 instances throughout NBA's history which fit this criteria (a trio of teammates each scoring 30+ points in the same game)

* Check this link to see a table with all the games and some trivia as well

* All stats only until the 2017/2018 season (apart for #2 on the list). I couldn't find a more up to date source. StatMuse weirdly doesn't answer this question. Most of the searches in the internet direct to "highest scoring average for a trio of teammates in a single season".

* If you have more up to date info, please post here. Thanks.

pretty impressive, I never expected Lopez to have the longevity that he has had. I remember once thinking his game was outdated but he reinvented himself and became a legit stretch big.

And he also missed basically 2 full seasons (11/12 and 13/14) due to injuries.

If you take into account his injuries, his current age, and reinventing himself as a player very late in his career (5 3PTA/game since his age-28 season, basically zero before)... that's been a remarkable journey.

Looks like the supposed Lillard has really disappointed is massively overblown so far.

101 points between 3 players is cute.

Kobe Bryant & Smush Parker once combined for 94 points

I thought it missed the Spurs but then saw the ‘at least 30 points’ criteria.

111 pts
Tony Parker 55
Tim Duncan 30
Roger Mason Jr 26

Almost!

and they won by 3,,,,,AGAINST THE WIZ

honestly. i don't know how to react to this in any way whatsoever, except to say everything about this is wrong

that the three had to score that many
that the three had to score such a large % of the team's output
that they had to score that much vs the wiz
that the wiz put that much on the board
that the wiz was 48%/40%
that,,,,IT'S THE WIZ

i don't think there's anything good to take away from this

Roger Mason Jr... man, feels like it's been 10 years I haven't heard of this name!

I would like to say wait until Middleton is healthy for a long period of time, but that does not look like it is going to happen ever.

Embiid, Maxey and Tobias combined for 97 points yesterday, and yes, all of them had at least 30.

Excellente performance, but still ways away from the top scoring trios I posted in the OP.

Watch on YouTube

Embiid 31/10/9 + 2 steals, 4 blocks
Maxey 33/4/10
Harris 33/8/7
