This is a staggering amount of trades his teams have done. As the article points out, some of it can be attributed to his longevity, but not all of it. Just about every year he has shipped off teammates or draft picks, and it's about to happen again this season. If he is really the GOAT, why does he constantly need the most help of any player, ever?

I mean it’s a lot but it tends to work. The trades lead to a WCF spot last year. The AD trade got them a championship. The Cavs **** in 2018 got them to the finals. I mean that was more of a wild run by LeBron in the playoffs. It tends to wield good results unfortunately

I'm not sure what this is trying to prove... Seems like much ado about nothing, if he began his team with competent management that somehow was able to draft an all-time great that took all major defensive assignments then his team would have had to trade less players... Similarly if he was on a team with one of the most dominant bigs of all time from the jump there also would have been less player movement...

44 in four years in Cleveland, compared to 35 for MJ in fifteen seasons. No wonder Kyrie called him LeGM.

Did the stats guy happen to consider the inflation of trades in the NBA generally between eras?

Even still LeBron had a lot, been on 4 separate teams. A good contemporary comp would be Durant or Kawhi.
Speaks to the bias of the graphic that they chose guys that stayed in one team largely. Plenty of better comps to see.

Are there bonus points when teams win titles with less trades or something? I'd also love to see a list of all the trades the Lakers were doing in the 80's & 90's after Jerry took over or the Celtics did with Red. I am guessing those two didn't understand how trades would be looked down upon on message boards 30-40 years later and destroy their legacies as great gms.

The 60's Celtics basically had like fifteen players in ten years. Nobody got traded in those days except Wilt Chamberlain.

This has nothing to do with Lebron but picks are overrated in the sense it isn’t actually a locked in value. What is value is actually a player of value.

Drafts will never be an exact science it’s just 1 of the like 4 ways of getting a good player. Draft, develop, trade or FA

Trades obviously have more value associated attached to a prize player because it’s known vs unknown.

For every 1st round pick there’s 2 that won’t amount to anything.

Now if every team had a co-sign for 100 1st rnd picks at 5 per year and 4 chips then every team would sign up.

What 7 to 8 players/picks were traded LeBron's rookie season? Also, what 10-11 trades/picks did the Heat move off in 2010-2011?

There appears to be a lot of context missing here.

Man has done everything he has possibly could from team hopping to trading half the roster every season to get to 4 rings in 21 seasons.

The information presented in the OP isn't true. A quick spot check from bball reference shows the 2010-2011 Heat traded two players and two picks after acquiring James.

So either the author can't count, or there's contextual information missing.

Only 5 were traded that year, and only 4 the next. I'm assuming the others are wrong too based on the first 2 seasons. But who cares about facts when it comes to players we don't like, amirite?!

I wasn't referring to the 60's Celtics and I know the landscape has changed a lot over the decades. Red was still there up until the mid 80's.

4 years in CLE = 44 trades

The biggest difference in the two situations was the amount of pressure James was allowed to exert on the front office. It took the strongest organizational cohesion in the NBA to keep James in check, and when he got tired of that, he left.

4 years in CLE = 44 trades

The biggest difference in the two situations was that Riley accepted James' input, whereas Cleveland followed James' orders.

That's just a fictional narrative though.

Griffen said he made all those trades trying to make Cavs a contender around LeBron. Griffen even said he hates how LeBron gets all the credit for the trades, that's what made him miserable.

The actual difference between Cavs and Miami was that Miami were setup around Wade to contend, they already had pieces in place and added LeBron and Bosh in FA.

Cavs were a rebuilding team that had to restructure everything around LeBron and Kyrie.
