Jeff Teague says James Harden is the 3rd greatest SG of all-time

I mean I just checked basketball reference and harden is so far ahead of wade in career vorp, win shares per 48 and box plus that it’s not really that ludacris of a statement

I mean as of today in hardens 15th year, most advanced metrics have harden as a top 15 player in the league. I don’t remember wade being this impactful this late in his career

I wonder if the players like Teague who played againist both players would give similar responses if you got their opinion off-the-record. Since harden is so polarizing and any perceived praise of harden will be met harshly from the SAS, Perkins and Chris Broussard types

I still lean Wade, but it's perfectly defensible to have Harden. Maybe eventually I'll put Harden higher.

EDIT: I hate ranking positionally, though.

I mean I'd put Wade higher for his overall career, but I think Harden peaked higher. I dislike Harden but he became great at bating fouls and getting to the line... probably one of the best ever at it.

If you’re using Jeff Teague to back your argument you’ve already lost.

But then again, I’m not shocked it’s this specific OP that posted this.

The playoffs are what confirms a players greatness.

That’s why I said if harden wasn’t so polarizing would more players who played againist both also agree with Jeff Teague opinion. I’m sure first take or fs1 is gonna tear a new one into Jeff Teague tomorrow morning.

Harden has the 4th most 40 point playoff games by any guard in history

I believe it’s Jordan, the Kobe , jerry west and then harden is 4th all time in playoff 40 point games by a guard

I have a strong anti-Jeff Teague and pro-Heat bias so I think I'll sit this one out

Wade had a helluva decade long run in Miami but was mostly just cashing a few more checks after that.

The NBA has paid the media to condition fans' minds into believing that winning the championship is more important than any other accolades. So, I wouldn't be surprised if fans perceived this as a controversial opinion.

P.S. Harden could have also won a championship if he had played alongside mid to low-tier star-caliber players like Shaq and the Heatles.

Wade was better than any version of Harden by his third season.

Playoffs >>>>> anything else. Harden has actually played well against the Warriors in seperate occasions but and I say this.

There’s other factors rather than just looking at the total accumulated stats/impact.

1. His ethics/demeanour **** sucks areshole. As great as he is and he is that is not the approach in fact the opposite

2. He loses what 20% FT volume in the playoffs? Baiting doesn’t work as well when the whistle is put away

3. Add to that his game is definitely exposed because of how limited it is in range. Means to say 3’s, layups, drawing fouls. It’s weird because he is more than capable on the in between stuff

4. Dude loses his skill under pressure in big games especially on ball playmaking when it comes to passing and execution like I can understand Curry having those exact issues but Harden? More size and goes to water at bad times. He also has a tendency to get worse as a series goes on

Don’t get me wrong he can have massive games but his negatives are so badly impacted on effect
that people have every right to claim he’s not as great as his all time impact in the regular would suggest it does.

Anyway Wade. It is bias but dude was a 6”4 Lebron trucking everybody at his best

06 actually has the lowest WOWY outside of him in the negatives. Makes sense how skinny it was in depth and the second best player was older SHAQ.

If Harden played more like Wade just maybe he would be seen in a better light.

What hurts him is his inconsistency. He would have 15 pts and below stinkers in between those 40 pt games. He would look like a world beater in one game and disappear the next.

Yes, THIS, but also his complete lack of defense.
Wade was more consistent, more reliable, more clutch, AND a way better defender.
One of the best rim-protecting guards of all time.
Nowhere near the playmaker of Harden, but I'd take peak Wade over peak Harden without hesitation.
Harden has a case for career though. Much better longevity.

No he wouldn't have. He would have still choked. It's in his DNA.

He's played next to superstars his last two stops and forced his way out each time. The OKC years were before his prime, sure. Pretty much killed Dwight Howard's career who was still an all-star when he signed in Houston. Chris Paul was an all-star before and after he played with Harden. There might not be a "talent" discussion that works any less than for a guy like Harden for his career.

This is why you watch basketball games instead of staring at stats sheet on the internet.

Have you seen how good LeBron was with the Heat?

Have you seen how much whistles the refs gave Wade during that finals run that I snoozed at almost every game of that finals series.
