Spurs vs. Hornets for the #3 Worst Record (And More Lottery Balls)

Hey it's a few lotto balls difference (1.5% difference) but could be big for both rebuilding squads (especially if they win the lottery)

Team > Odds for No. 1 Pick

Team 1: 14.0%
Team 2: 14.0%
Team 3: 14.0%
Team 4: 12.5%

Current(Tank) standings:

1. Detroit Pistons (13-67)
2. Washington Wizards (15-65)
3. San Antonio Spurs (20-60)
4. Charlotte Hornets (20-60)

Last 2 Games:
Hornets: @ Boston, @ Cleveland
Spurs: vs Denver, vs Detroit

Hornets with the major advantage (2 road unwinnable games) over the Spurs (playoff team and the Pistons) but San Antonio is a master of tanking here and i feel they'll find a way to get that Bottom 3 (and still win the #1 pick after last year's Wemby lottery win  )

If they both lose, it will be a coin flip first before the lotto.

And oh i did not know it was this complicated. LOL

> How specifically does the Lottery work?

The 39th annual NBA Draft Lottery will determine the order of selection for the first 14 picks of the 2024 NBA Draft. Drawings will be conducted to determine the first four picks in the NBA Draft. The remainder of the “lottery teams” will select in positions five through 14 in inverse order of their 2023-24 regular-season records.

The actual lottery procedure will take place in a separate room just before ESPN’s national broadcast. Select media, NBA officials and representatives of the participating teams and the accounting firm Ernst & Young will be in attendance for the drawings.

Fourteen ping-pong balls numbered 1 through 14 will be placed in a lottery machine. There are 1,001 possible combinations when four balls are drawn out of 14, without regard to their order of selection. Before the lottery, 1,000 of those 1,001 combinations will be assigned to the 14 participating lottery teams. The lottery machine is manufactured by the Smart Play Company, a leading manufacturer of state lottery machines throughout the United States. Smart Play also weighs, measures and certifies the ping-pong balls before the drawing.

The drawing process occurs in the following manner: All 14 balls are placed in the lottery machine and they are mixed for 20 seconds, and then the first ball is removed. The remaining balls are mixed in the lottery machine for another 10 seconds, and then the second ball is drawn. There is a 10-second mix, and then the third ball is drawn. There is a 10-second mix, and then the fourth ball is drawn. The team that has been assigned that combination will receive the No. 1 pick. The same process is repeated with the same ping-pong balls and lottery machine for the second through fourth picks.

If the same team comes up more than once, the result is discarded and another four-ball combination is selected. Also, if the one unassigned combination is drawn, the result is discarded and the balls are drawn again. The length of time the balls are mixed is monitored by a timekeeper who faces away from the machine and signals the machine operator after the appropriate amount of time has elapsed.

A representative from Ernst & Young oversees the entire lottery process and stuffs and seals the envelopes before bringing them to the studio for the broadcast. The announcement of the lottery results will be made by NBA Deputy Commissioner and Chief Operating Officer Mark Tatum. A second representative from each participating team will be seated on stage. Neither the Deputy Commissioner nor the team representatives on stage will be informed of the lottery results before the envelopes are opened. The team whose logo is in the last envelope opened will have the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, which will be held on June26-27, 2024.

Spurs will try to win, Pop doesn't want the Hornet's balls.

Denver needs to win to stay #1 in the WC. Hard to see SA beating them. Not as easy to lose to Detroit though.

Boston is done for the regular season. They might not be giving much effort against Charlotte. Not sure if Cleveland has anything to play for on Sunday.

There is no generational big man in this draft, so the spurs won't get the #1 pick.

This draft has a lot of question marks with no sure fire #1 pick type of talent.

Plus the Hornets and Spurs may both be eyeing completely different prospects. So I don’t think this is as important.

Next years draft should be much more exciting with Cooper Flagg and Ace Bailey leading the Top 2 potential future superstars.

Doesn’t matter, this draft sucks. League will probably give us the top pick to act like they didn’t scam us out of Davis and Howard

if that's really the case, you can trade that #1. i'm sure there's some team looking to pull an Ainge with Tatum\Fultz, meaning they are really high on someone and would be willing to pay

Sarr would be a good choice for the Hornets, not every draft has a generational player..

Hornets can't tank lol. Came back from 18 the other day against the hawks when they badly needed a loss.

Its comical at this point. Last season they were in prime position to get 2nd or 3rd worst odds and finished the season with a stretch of games going 18-12, passed the Spurs in the standings and the rest is history. Happy with Brandon Miller but man was that stupid. 2 injury ridden seasons in a row, you have to take advantage of lotto balls. Losing is winning. Lets hope Spurs and Wemby want that final win at home vs. Detroit.

Can see Boston sitting a bunch of guys today. At least the Cavs need a win for seeding purposes.

All the Boston starters played last night, theres no reason for any of them to play tonight on a back to back with nothing to play for.

Hornets never tank, even when they should so if they lose out it will be legit. The best hope for a Charlotte win, if you're a Spurs fan, is Boston potentially sitting everyone with a pulse tonight.

I'll be interested to see if Pop goes full tank commander in that finale game against Detroit.

The fact that there is 1 possible combination where no one wins is hilarious.

Can we please televise this and have that combination mean something wild? Like the entire league gets redrafted?
