"Marginal Contact"

Post#1 » by ScrantonBulls » Tue Apr 23, 2024 4:42 am

We all saw the hit to the face on a Lakers player that got reversed because it was "Marginal Contact". I've never seen this before during a regular season game I don't think, especially when the player is hit in the face. Is this a regular thing, or only during the playoffs?

It only matters what the refs want to be true on any given night.

Absolutely ridiculous. We can bump, and then slap a person in their face while they're in the air (as long as the ball is released)... But shooters have to be able to land.

He hit him in face after the shot. Marginal contact was around waist. It is a stupid rule because you cant contest a 3 nowdays, otherwise you will get in "landing space" and that will be a 3 FTs but you can smack a player in the face after the shot on a layup attempt.
Can we add that Lebron push-off in this thread also? He missed wide open one but it shouldnt have been wide open.

Can we add the foul call on LeBron when he “fouled” Murray the possession right before?

RealGM would have 5 threads and be calling for a league investigation if that call happened for the Lakers

I have seen that called a flagrant before. So... I guess welcome to the playoffs?
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

It's a clear foul. Since when could you hit a shooter across the face?

Similar thing happened in a Pacers Celtics game this season. Hield was called for fouling Brown because he hit him in the head while he was blocking the shot from behind. So not the face but still a similar situation.

The refs reversed the call. In the last 2 minute report, they said the contact to Brown's head was minimal and incidental.

Lebron even commented about how bad the call was.

This call tonight was just as bad if not worse

Great chance for LAL to see how the other half lives.

They've been calling it like this for most of the 2nd half and especially in the playoffs. The contact happened after the ball was released...

So then do we agree it's not rigged for LA?

This happens every year  all I hear is the refs are gifting LA wins, then it happens the other way and everyone goes "see how it feels?!"... but no wait... you can't have both. The logic can't work both ways if the first part is true.

Not going to lie, I was confused on the ruling of that challenge but I let brighter minds make the call on that one. To me it looked like a clear foul, especially since contact was made on the face which would be a flagrant 1 in most circumstances, but the ball was out of his hands when contact was made, so I guess they don't make decisions on contact after that point. I just dont get it.

Especially when the refs are making some soft calls going the other.

If DLO took a straight jump shot and was hit in the face following the release of the ball, is it a foul? I thought rules allow for offensive players to land, even after release.

That was plain wrong

Almost seemed like Scott Foster didn't agree with it when he was announcing that so maybe it was all on the replay center?
