Official agility, speed, and power numbers:
Zach Edey
Lane agility time: 11.19 seconds
Shuttle run: 3.01 seconds
Three quarter sprint: 3.42 seconds
Standing vertical leap: 26"
Max vertical leap: 31.5"
Donovan Clingan
Lane agility time: 12.06 seconds
Shuttle run: 3.38 seconds
Three quarter sprint: 3.46 seconds
Standing vertical leap: 25.5"
Max vertical leap: 29"
Zach beat him in every category despite being two inches taller and weighing 17 pounds more. The lane agility and shuttle run weren't even close. Zach legitimately had the fourth and sixth-best times in those tests out of all the centers. Consider his size, stamina, and durability and he's a legitimate athletic freak.
His numbers were amazing last year and he just took it to another level this time around.

None of those numbers mean anything. Anyone who has watched Edey knows he's a big stiff who can't guard a sack of potatoes' in the league. He also doesn't really have any post moves except the left hook and has mediocre hands (not soft)

How's he not a lotto lock in this "****" draft again?

I agree with him 100%. Nobody should take him before #28.

Watch the Wisconsin game from February…Tyler Wahl dismantled him. That game proved to me he can’t defend in this league

Hopefully this means Canada finally has its Center of the future. Crossing my fingers that he can keep improving at the rate he's been.

So 1 game proved that to you while we ignore the 100 other ones where he dominated? I'm not saying he's going to dominate the nba but his improvement year over year has definitely shown he has a good chance.
Especially if the league is reffed the way it has after the allstar break. If we're going back to the no defense allowed league then it'll be tough for him to stick.

From ESPN/DraftExpress' Jonathan Givony:
Zach Edey, C, Purdue: Edey, ranked No. 14 in our Top 100, measured exceptionally well as expected -- 7-foot-5 in shoes, with a near 7-foot-11 wingspan, 299 pounds and a 9-foot-7.5 standing reach -- unprecedented figures that we learned at last year's NBA draft combine before Edey withdrew from the draft. But he also tested better than last year, shaving off time from last year's pro lane agility drill, and measuring a solid vertical leap and three-quarter court sprint time, showing the significant improvement he has made with his conditioning and mobility since electing to return to Purdue for his senior season.
He also put on a pretty impressive showing in shooting drills, hitting 3s off movement, spotting up and pulling up off the dribble, showing some real potential in that area as he has long insisted he possesses. Edey has quite a few fans around the NBA at this point, and there are plenty of executives who say they have him ranked as a lottery pick, or even as a top-10 prospect because of how well he rates in their analytics models. -- Givony

I get why people don't know what to do with Edey. There hasn't really been a prospect like him.
He's way more mobile and skilled than the college giants who couldn't make the league (Kenny George, Sim Bhullar, Tacko Fall, Mamadou N'Diaye) but still has some legit concerns about his mobility as a drop coverage rim protector. The closest things we have are Boban (but Edey is a lot more athletic than Bobo) and Yao Ming (who played in a very different era).
There just isn't a player like him so we try to group him with the closest things we can think of. I'm definitely rooting for him to succeed.

Here's the footage of Zach's 11.19 second lane agility test:

Very impressive changes of direction.

For comparison, here's what a true Boban-like lumbering giant looks like doing the lane agility test:
Tacko Fall 2020 NBA Combine:
Lane agility test: 13.01 seconds
3/4 court sprint test: 3.78 seconds

If he wasn’t some half Asian half white guy from Canada he’d be a lock for the lottery. He’s got range too. He came in 5th place during the 3 point shooting drill

He’s still a weird prospect to me. I am surprised that his mobility metrics are better than Clingan, he seemed noticeably more mobile during the tourney. Clingan just seemed way bouncier and more fast twitch oriented than Edey.
I still think there’s a good chance he’s busts. Can he find a way not to be a complete liability in P&R coverage? Can he do anything on offense besides getting the ball dumped to down low (not an attractive modern NBA skill), can he do the little things? Set picks, roll man, etc.
He’s definitely compelling… especially as a bench supporting a guy like Wemby or Chet.

I’m ready for Portland to draft Clingan and Edey at 7 and 14, then let them fight for playing time. Then trade the worse of the 2.

That makes sense. They can compete with Ayton and Robert Williams.
